IIIT Bhagalpur to Offer B.Tech in Hindi from Academic Session 2021-22; Read Full Report Here

As per the recent updates, the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bhagalpur is now preparing to offer B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) Program in both English and Hindi language to all interested applicants from the next academic session 2021-2022.

Referring to the initiative, Arvind Choubey, Director, IIIT Bhagalpur stated that as per the instructions, the institute will now offer its B.Tech program in Hindi. He even added that both the teaching and explaining of concepts will take place in Hindi.

"Hope the teachers will do better work in this direction. Students should also understand Hindi well and include it in their reading work" he further added.

Adding to the same, IIIT Bhagalpur Registrar Gaurav Kumar stated that the four-year duration undergraduate program in the technology semester will be selected based on the letter received by the Ministry.

After the selection of semesters, the course materials of B.Tech will be made available for all registered candidates. IIIT Bhagalpur Director further added that the institute will now have equal command over the English and Hindi languages. Both languages will help students in getting better placement opportunities in national and international companies.

The move was made at par with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, starting from the academic year 2021. For the unversed, AICTE had earlier permitted colleges to offer engineering degrees in regional languages, initially with five Indian languages — Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali. The council is currently working on translating course materials of engineering degree programs in 11 regional languages, as reports claim.

However, a section also believes that both teaching and learning in regional languages can be challenging in the beginning. The reason lies in the fact that most faculty members have been taught in English and in return have been teaching in the same language for years by now.

Talking about the Hindi course materials, Arvind Choubey added that teaching B.Tech Program in Hindi will come as a challenge for IIIT Bhagalpur Faculty members. They will need a Hindi dictionary in order to teach the program in the Hindi language.

IIIT Bhagalpur is perhaps the second higher education institution in Bihar to make the declaration regarding offering B.Tech in Hindi after NIT Patna. Earlier, in September 2021, NIT Patna had also introduced the B.Tech course in the Hindi language for the academic session 2021-2022. With this, the education system will have more faculty members who will be responsible for teaching the program in the Hindi language.
