Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bhagalpur developed a covid-19 detection test method for which the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has given its approval.

According to TOI reports, the ICMR gave its approval to the Artificial Intelligence (AI) based software technology ‘COVZN’, developed by the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bhagalpur

The AI based software technology ‘COVZN’ has been designed in such a way that it can detect COVID-19, tuberculosis and other severe chest infections in a very short time and at a cheaper rate.

This AI based software technology can now be used at hospitals and laboratories across the country.

The IIIT Bhagalpur researchers have been constantly working on this AI based project from March 2020. Prof Arvind Choubey, Director, IIIT Bhagalpur headed the research team, who said that the ‘COVZN software technology’ can read the scanned chest x-ray film or plate and High Resolution Computed Tomography (CT) scan uploaded to the computer in less than one second through the software programme.

With the help of this AI based software technology, the cost of diagnosis of COVID-19 infection would be less than INR 100, when compared to the conventional microbiological swab tests. The technology will also save two-three days or more in getting the test results. Moreover, the COVZN can detect diseases like tuberculosis and other complicated chest diseases, he said.

Along with another fellow assistant, Professor Sandip Raj, Choubey, stated that the ICMR and the Union Ministry of Health had conducted a test run in order to validate the innovative AI based software technology, COVZN as it has the ability to save patient's lives, money, and time in diagnosing Covid-19 infection in an efficient manner.
