IICT Join Hands with Cipla Foundation to Upskill PG Students from North East India


New Delhi: IICT Hyderabad and Cipla Foundation have signed an agreement to conduct an ‘orientation-cum-training’ programme’ for the M.Sc (Chemistry) students from the North Eastern states of India. 

The training programme will continue for 3 years, starting from 2021-2022 cycle and is a part of the CSR initiatives of IICT

The primary aim of this programme by IICT and Mumbai-based organisation Cipla is to provide the M.Sc (Chemistry) students from the North-Eastern India with advance skills and training from the expert scientists at IICT, prepare them for the professional exposure to the industry along with pursuing PhD in Chemistry and to expose them to a diverse culture. 

The 3 month hybrid (both online and hands-on) skill development programme began with a virtual inaugural session, held on January 7. The session was attended by 50 students representing the seven North-Eastern states, from the Chemistry faculty from several universities and faculty from CSIR-IICT. 

Welcoming the participants, D Shailaja, the Chief Scientist and Nodal Officer for Skill and CSR programme at CSIR-IICT, informed the participants about the several skill development programmes conducted by CSIR-IICT to aid the skill development process of the UG and PG students to improve their career growth. 

While, senior principal scientist and course coordinator Pradosh Chakrabarti further spoke about the several benefits and gains for the students in relation to heightened employment opportunities in relevant industries along with the prospect of getting admission into renowned academic institutions for higher studies. 

Anurag Mishra, the CEO of Cipla Foundation has also encouraged the students to pursue Chemistry and view it as a growing career option. 

According to Diganta Choudhuri, the Head of the Chemistry Department of B Borooah College, Gauhati, the course structure of this skill development programme is well conceived to provide the students with excellent knowledge and skills necessary for their future career in Chemistry.
