New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has been recording and delivering video lectures on its channels according to a schedule devised by the Center for Online Education (COE) and channel coordinators.

According to Regional Director M. Shanmugam of IGNOU, the Open University has been named the national coordinator for SWAYAM Prabha DTH Channels 17, 18, 19, and 20.
The ministry of education launched SWAYAM Prabha to give 34 high-quality educational channels via DTH (Direct-to-Home) across the country 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through GSAT-15.

The initiative SWAYAM Prabha was created in response to the digital change that occurred as a result of the pandemic emergency. Its primary goal was to make quality learning resources accessible to distant places with limited internet connectivity.
After an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, schools and universities across the country have closed down again. SWAYAM Prabha DTH Channels 17, 18, 19, and 20 assisted in continuing the teaching-learning process during the closure.

IGNOU began live regional language lectures on January 6, 2022 with the participation of numerous regional centers. IGNOU Regional Center in Madurai was chosen as the location for live video lectures in Tamil.

Shanmugam claims that the first live Tamil video session on the History discipline aired on January 7 and the second on January 11. He went on to say that every week, two or three slots were set out for Tamil transmission.
IGNOU Live Broadcasting
IGNOU had earlier launched its education broadcasting channel, Gyan Darshan which has been a major milestone in the Indian Education system. At present , it runs 4 channels- Gyan Darshan 1 and 2, Eklavya and Vyas.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has created Gyan Darshan, an educational broadcast channel. The Gyan Darshan (GD) channel represents a watershed moment in India's educational television landscape.
- The Ministry of Human Resource development (MHRD), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I & B Ministry), Prasar Bharati, and IGNOU serve as the nodal agency.
- GD, which began broadcasting in the year 2000, is a 24-hour educational channel that provides the best educational programming on a variety of subjects to a diverse audience. Preschool, primary, secondary, and higher secondary students, college/university students, young people looking for work, homemakers, and working professionals are among them.
- The software was gathered from a variety of educational institutions and non-profit development organizations. Every day, GD hosts two hours of live interactive sessions to help the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system become more engaged.
