New Delhi: IGNOU, School of Foreign Languages has launched an online certificate course in Spanish and French from the January 2022 session.
Keeping in mind the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, IGNOU has launched the certificate programmes virtually. Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU, inaugurated the virtual inauguration ceremony.

IGNOU Certificate Course in Spanish
The certificate course in Spanish Language and Culture (CSLCOL) focuses on helping aspirants learn Spanish in a non-native context. The course is suitable for those who desire to receive cultural information on the Spanish-speaking countries.
In order to enroll for admissions into the certificate course in CSLCOL, students should have passed 10+2, with a knowledge in English. The total fee structure of the six-month certificate course is INR 4,500.
According to IGNOU's press release, the primary aim of the certificate programme is equip the learners to acquire language skills (pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and basic communicative competence, both in oral and written communications) and socio-cultural competence in the target language enabling them to communicate effectively with the Spanish-speaking world in the daily life activities.
IGNOU Certificate Course in French
IGNOU has introduced the certificate course in French with an aim to introduce French to the beginners and eventually increase their skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking and developing their intercultural competence.
Candidates willing to pursue the certificate course in French language must be above the age of 18, and they must have passed 10+2 from a recognized university/ institution. The fee structure of the 6-month programme is INR 6600.
As per the IGNOU statement, the course has been developed around the textbook Connexions, Methode de francais and based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Language) used for the international standardization of pedagogy of European languages worldwide.
Recently, the School of Continuing Education, IGNOU launched a certificate programme in Food and Nutrition, whereas IGNOU's School of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies, IGNOU launched an MA degree in Sustainability Science, MASS course.
