New Delhi: IGNOU School of Social Work has launched the Online Bachelor in Social Work programme. The course will be offered from the academic year 2022-24.
IGNOU has curated this Bachelor’s degree program for candidates who are interested in offering professional assistance to people in need. The registration process has begun on its official website, interested candidates can apply before January 31, 2022.

“With the changing global scenario, new concerns and human problems a lot is left to be addressed. Here, Social Work can fill-in the gaps and bring about a change in the society,” as stated in the official release.
The program was launched by Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, Nageshwar Rao, Y S Sidde Gowda, the VC of Tumkur University, K Sekar- the retired Senior Professor and former Registrar, NIMHANS, Bangalore. Additionally, Sanjay Bhatt-Professor of Department of Social Work, Delhi University and Rose Nembiakkim- Director, School of Social Work, IGNOU were also present at the launch event. .
The course will be coordinated by Dr. V. Knnappa Setty and Dr. K. Linga Swamy SOSW, IGNOU.

IGNOU BSW Online Course: Benefits
The new BSW course by IGNOU is supposed to provide ample opportunities for work in socially relevant areas such as healthcare, education, community development, counselling, family, correlational setting, social defence, mental health, disability sectors, etc.
Lauding the importance of this online BSW programme, Professor Nageshwar Rao, VC, IGNOU stated that the current programme was aligned with India’s new education policy (NEP 2020) guidelines.
“Other Subject experts highlighted the importance of skilled base professional courses such as BSW and appreciated the initiative by IGNOU’s School of Social Work faculty”, he further added.
The programme is to be specifically useful for people working or wishing for employment in NGOs, INGOs, CSR and other such advocacy fields. It will also be fruitful for fresh candidates who may like to work in the social and family welfare sectors among the others.
Along with Professor Rao, other subject experts from the affiliated colleges, have highlighted the importance of skilled base professional courses such as BSW and appreciated the initiative by the School of Social Work, IGNOU.
The bachelor degree programme is also for the people interested in professionally helping others. With the constantly changing global scenario, new concerns and problems are being emerged and therefore, in need of constant addressing. Social work can bridge the gaps and bring forth a change in society, as per the official statement.
Meanwhile, IGNOU Admission 2022 is open for online PG courses in Environmental and Occupational Health and MA in CSR. IGNOU has recently launched online postgraduate programs in Environmental and Occupational Health to reduce and prevent the effects caused by environmental and occupational exposures on human health. Registration for the both the courses are ongoing, however MA in CSR candidates can apply till January 31, 2022.
