DU UG Curriculum Framework 2022 Proposes Major Changes
Framed as per NEP 2020, DU UGCF 2022 includes 176 credits for a four-year honours degree and 132 credits for a three-year degree.
It has also proposed to bring changes into the current education system in form of multidisciplinary courses, exit options for the students who can leave their UG courses after their first, second or third year with a certificate. It is also supposed to pave the way for a four-year long degree programme.
NEP 2020 Objectives to be initiated through National Curriculum Framework
On January 21, 2022, DU released a draft UGCF 2022 and asked for feedback from the stakeholders, including parents and academicians. They had till January 31 to submit the feedback.
11 members of the Academic Council submitted a dissent note against the framework, saying it must be up for discussion between all the concerned bodies before getting approved. The note also mentioned that the varsity allowed only 10 days for the stakeholders to submit a critical feedback

“The feedback collected has not been shared with the members of the Academic Council. While it may be true that the University has received an “overwhelming response”, it is important to investigate the feedback for concerns stakeholders may have raised. A blind eye to concerns raised would be fatal”, as stated by the opposing stakeholders.
It is also stated that the four-year long undergraduate programme will more likely to increase the burden of another year of education on both the parents and students. Moreover, the Multiple Entry and Exit scheme might institutionalise drop-outs in large numbers.

Rudrashis Chakraborty, an elected member of DUTA Executive, criticised the proposed UG programme for attempting to impose a “one-size-fits-all” policy on each course, without considering the individual requirements.
“This is not academically feasible and compromises quality and rigour of various courses”, he further added to his statement.
However, the proposal will now require approval from Delhi University’s Executive Council before it is implemented. UGCF will serve as the blueprint for implementing a four-year undergraduate program (FYUP) from the 2022-23 academic session. The next EC meeting is slated for Friday.
