Deloitte Offers Fellowship for IIT Roorkee Students in AI and Advanced Analytics


New Delhi: IIT Roorkee has recently made a strategic partnership with Deloitte for joint research and development in AI and Machine Learning. As a part of this collaboration, Deloitte will provide fellowships and a work-study programme for IIT Roorkee students to work on AI and Advanced Analytics.

The partnership between IIT Roorkee and Deloitte is in line with the Government of India's Digital India mission, which intends to improve AI-enabled technology in every sector, including governance, banking, education, health etc. 

The cooperation will concentrate on a prioritised set of AI activities, including designing and delivering AI and Machine Learning certification courses to train Deloitte workers. This collaboration will also foster AI fluency for prospective students and the Indian population at large through online learning courses, allowing people to be digitally empowered.

Prof. Ajit K. Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, highlighted the significance of the relationship with Deloitte, stating, “The coming together of IIT Roorkee and Deloitte will create new opportunities for both of us. In fact, this partnership has the potential to strengthen the AI roadmap of India.”

In addition, IIT Roorkee has developed the Mehta Family School for Data Science and Machine Learning, which provides M.Tech in AI and Data Science. It also provides a PhD programme, and starting in the Autumn 2022 semester, it will offer a full-fledged B.Tech in Data Science and AI degree programme. Furthermore, the School will offer minor specialisation in data science and artificial intelligence to all the students of the institute.

Prof. Manish Shrikhande, Dean SRIC – IIT Roorkee, highlighted that the institute's other goals include supporting the Indian government's Make-in-India and Atma-Nirbhar Bharat initiatives by seeding entrepreneurship and startups related to AI, as well as creating resource centres for information and knowledge sharing.
