Delhi University is considering to establish an Institute of Nanomedical Sciences (INMS) to facilitate research on severe diseases like cancer, sickle cell disease and diabetes.
The proposal to establish the Institute of Nanomedical Sciences (INMS) at Delhi University will be discussed during the Executive Council (EC) meeting scheduled on December 17, 2021.
Although the proposal came up during the Academic Council Meeting a few days back, it was passed on due to the opposition of some members.
As per the documents shared to the EC members, the Institute of Nanomedical Sciences (INMS) will be a mission-driven institute, which will gather researchers in Medicine, Computation, Chemistry, and Biology from Wayne State School of Medicine, Delhi University, and medical schools in Delhi.

Further, the document revealed that the institute will collaborate with scientists and public health experts to address medical challenges worldwide. It will also work to build and sustain international consortia to spread discovery in various areas such as sickle cell disease, diabetes, cancers, and kidney research, etc.
According to the reports, the institute will also empower a revolution in Biomedicine to accelerate the pace through which the world will conquer diseases.
The governing body members of INMS will consist of the secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, the secretary of the Education Ministry and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, DRDO secretary, among others.
International experts from the nanomedicine field will also be included as governing body.

The document stated that the governing body of INMS will constitute an international advisory board to suggest INMS on special research matters and the members who are the leaders in their respective fields and not connected with DU, including one or two Nobel laureates.
Individuals working in national labs and industries, senior scientists and pioneers in their fields across the world may be appointed as visiting faculty/fellows etc.
Further, the versatile experts in the nanomedicine and nanotechnology and allied fields might be appointed as distinguished professor and professor emeritus for life by the director/governing body of INMS, the document said.
