DU Approved CUCET; UG Admissions through Entrance from 2022; Read Details Here

December 18, 2021: Delhi University has recently approved to conduct Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) for undergraduate admissions, starting from the academic year 2022-23.

The final decision on admission criteria of Delhi University was made with two dissents from the Executive Council (EC) of the university on Friday, December 17, 2021.

With the implementation of CUCET in admission process, the university aims to scrap the domination of marks among students. Students who are seeking admission in DU Affiliated Colleges will have an equal chance during admission.

Following the decision, those who wish to apply for DU Admission 2022 will have to appear for the nationwide entrance examination. The final selection of students will be done based on marks secured in CUCET and Class 12th Board marks.

Apart from this, the executive council also discussed various significant issues during the council meeting, such as appointment of International Adjunct Faculty among others. During the meeting, the Delhi University Executive Council also approved Rajni Abbi, former Delhi Mayor as Delhi University Proctor.

The executive council meeting of the university was held after senior officials tendered their resignations. The resignation was given by Pro-Vice-Chancellor PC Joshi, Proctor Neeta Sehgal, and Dean of Students Welfare Rajeev Gupta on Thursday, December 16, 2021.

Earlier, on December 10, 2021, the Delhi University Academic Council approved the commencement of CUCET for DU Admission 2022. The approval was given by the nine-member DU committee set up by the DU Vice-Chancellor, as the proposal was in line with UGC’s new directions for universities.

DU had plans to implement CUCET early this year, however the idea was temporarily shelved, considering the upsurge of COVID-19 cases following the second wave. Also, the implementation would require making major changes in the admission procedure, and hence the delay.

Despite all these, the dissenting members pointed out that the proposal report only includes considerations from DU Admission 2021-2022. The proposal was submitted by keeping in mind the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country.

With the revaluation, the members changed the status of the admission procedure to "tried and tested" which can only be justified with data analysis for a substantial period of time.

Following the decision made by Delhi University, various other central universities are now also considering adding CUCET examination as a part of their admission process. The entrance exam will be included in the admission process in accordance with UGC guidelines.
