Delhi University Allocates INR 10 Crore For Centenary Celebrations Starting from May 01, 2022; Read Details Here


New Delhi: Delhi University has allocated a fund of INR 10 crore for its centenary celebrations which are scheduled to commence from May 01, 2022, on the campus ground. The year-long celebration event will be concluded on May 01, 2023. 

On the occasion of completing 100 years of service, Delhi University will hold the centenary celebrations in a grand way. The event will include various events and activities such as a logo design competition, and coffee table book with old photographs, etc. 

University of Delhi was established in 1922 by an act of the then Central Legislative Assembly. It was the unitary, teaching and residential University. Today DU’s notable alumni include Nobel laureates, authors, state heads and many more.

As per the updates, Delhi University Fund Committee has facilitated the amount of INR 10 crores for the celebrations. The committee includes the former pro-vice-chancellor Professor PC Joshi, Registrar Vikas Gupta, and university officials.

While talking about the celebrations, DU Fund Committee officials said, "The committee noted and took on record that the University of Delhi would be completing 100 years of glorious service to the nation in May 2022".

"The Delhi University has grown from strength to strength since its inception in the pre-independence era in 1922. The committee endorsed the decision of the university to commemorate and celebrate the occasion in a grand way" the report said. 

The recommendations made by the DU Fund Committee to allocate as stated, "an amount of Rs 10 crore for expenditure to be incurred on the centenary year celebrations of the university" was accepted by the Executive council during a meeting held on December 17, 2021.

With these celebrations, Delhi University is planning to bring out a coffee table book on the campus. The book will include photographs from old times since the varsity was established. 

Additionally, the university is planning to felicitate its former vice-chancellors too. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the country, no official confirmation for the same has been made by the university. 

On January 01, 2022, in his new year message, Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh had stated that the university will hold constructive events to mark the DU centenary celebrations. 

"While celebrating the centenary year, we, at the University of Delhi and its constituent and affiliated colleges, forming an integral part of the university community, may envisage programs and constructive events which create ample memorable moments for all of us to rejoice not only during the centenary year but also for the next century as well,” Singh had said.

DU Approved CUCET UG Admissions through Entrance from 2022

The Delhi University Fund Development Committee was earlier formed in December 2021 to manage and keep a tab on the university's finances and funds allocations. The committee’s goal is to take necessary measures related to funds and development on campus. 

Soon after its formation, the DU Development Fund Committee increased the annual university development charges per student by 50%. The proposal was approved by the executive council during a meeting held on December 17, 2021, in view of a reduction in capital grants by UGC. 

Following the approval, the DU Development Fee has now been increased to INR 900 per student annually from earlier INR 600 per student charges. The revised fee will be included in the overall DU Courses from the academic session 2022.
