Delhi Government Forms Panel to Look into Utilization of Grants by DU Colleges; Read Details Here


New Delhi: Delhi Government has formed a seven-member committee to look into fund utilization by 12 Delhi University affiliated colleges. The committee was created on January 17, 2022, after DU colleges were questioned regarding the release of grants.

As per the official order, the Delhi Government Panel will now inquire about the funds granted to those 12 colleges of Delhi University. The panel will submit their report by February 02, 2022, i.e, 15 days after order release.

The seven-member committee was constituted by the Delhi Higher Education Minister Manish Sisodia. 

Delhi Government committee will be chaired by Professor Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, Delhi University. The members of the committee include Vikas Gupta, Registrar of the University, Principles of Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Maharshi Valmiki College of Education, and Maharaja Agrasen College.

Additionally, Chairpersons of Governing bodies of Acharya Narendra Dev College and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College will join the committee. While Anil Kumar Sharma, Deputy Director, Higher Education, will be member secretary “to effectively coordinate the meetings”.

The committee will “inquire into the position of funds, sources of funds, utilization of funds and management of funds in respect of 12 Delhi government fully funded colleges of DU”, the order said.

Earlier, Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) had carried out a one-day strike to protest against the delay in funds released by the State Government. 

Rajesh Jha, Rajesh Jha, Member of the teachers’ body Academics For Action and Development requested the government to release funds for colleges as soon as possible. “Time to time, different agencies do the audit of these colleges, which is delaying the release of funds,'' he said. 

Adding to his statement, he said, "This committee shouldn’t be used to delay the release of funds. The terms of reference clearly show that the Delhi govt is eyeing the development fund of the colleges, which is collected from the students. This is a move towards privatization, which we will not accept."

Delhi University Courses & Fees 

Earlier, on December 27, 2021, DU increased development fee with effect from academic year 2021-22. The step was taken due to a reduction in capital grants by the Union Grants Commission, UGC.

Due to the delay in funds, the implementation of ICT (Information and Communications) enabled Infrastructure was also pending. With the increase in development fees, the university will be able to resume the various development projects on the campus ground.
