CUET UG Delay: JNU Teachers' Demand Reinstatement of University's Admission Process

New Delhi: The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers Association (JNUTA) expressed their concern about the admissions delay after Delhi University officials informed them that the admissions process would be delayed.

The JNUTA demanded that Delhi University reinstate its time-tested admissions process rather than relying on the National Testing Agency.

This happens to coincide with the new date for the NTA's Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG. The CUET-UG will now expire on August 28 instead of August 20, as it was originally planned.

This has occurred at the same time as the NTA has rescheduled the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG. The CUET-UG, which was scheduled to expire on August 20, would now conclude on August 28, 2022.

During its general body meeting on August 8, the JNU teachers' organisation passed a resolution requesting the university to withdraw their agreement with the NTA.

Prior to this, JNU admitted students to undergraduate courses through its own subjective exams. However, from 2019, JNU began accepting applications through the NTA's JNU Entrance Examination.

Earlier, DU stated this year that admissions to all the undergraduate and postgraduate courses would be done through the CUET scores.

According to the JNUTA, the university has experienced numerous delays as a result of its reliance on the NTA to administer entrance tests.

The JNUTA statement revealed that the GBM demands that the university terminate its arrangement with the NTA and quickly reinstate JNU's own time-tested admission procedures and institutional structures, including the Standing Committee on Admissions.

The second phase of CUET-UG which began last Thursday, was marred by errors, which caused problems for students who were sent back from the exam centres.

Last week, the exam's first shift was cancelled on Thursday in a number of locations across 17 states, while the second shift was cancelled at all 489 locations and the exam was cancelled at 50 exam centres.

The agency postponed the CUET-UG for the day in 53 centres on Saturday as they witnessed a similar circumstance.
