CUET PG 2022: JNU Teachers Raised Concerns Over Admissions Through CUET

New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) academicians and teachers association are now raising their concerns over the new examination pattern of CUET PG 2022 for admission to various postgraduate courses for the academic session 2022-23.

As per the Vice Chancellor of JNU, Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, the teachers of the university are requesting a change in the exam pattern of CUET PG 2022 as the Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) included in the exam pattern will dilute the quality of students.

In his official statement, JNU Vice Chancellor said, "For masters programs, we need to test the overall understanding of the subject, opinions and critical thinking besides knowledge. The MCQs have different testing patterns and aptitudes.

In addition to this, the JNU Teachers Association (JNU) is demanding the university suspend its agreement with National Testing Agency (NTA) for conducting CUET PG 2022 for PG admissions and restore its earlier admission test procedures.

Earlier, the JNU admission criteria for master's courses included shortlisting registered candidates based on their marks secured in the JNU Entrance Examination. The admission exam was also conducted by NTA for previous academic sessions.

JNU professor Bishnupriya Dutt said, "We need to take into account the unique nature of the university and peculiarity of different centers and the courses offered by them. There is a reason why the university attracts the best talent from across the country and its the selection process".

He further added, "If we have to provide a level playing field to everyone, CUET-PG can be a subjective exam but to test aspirants of Masters Programmes on the basis of an MCQ-based exam is not the right metric,"

Common University Entrance Test (CUET PG) is a new common admission test that is conducted for admission to postgraduate programs in central and state universities in India. The exam is scheduled to be held in two shifts from this academic session.

For the 2022-23 session, over 66 universities have adopted CUET PG 2022 as a common admission test for PG courses. While for UG courses, the central universities have adopted CUET UG 2022 to shortlist candidates for admission seats.

As per the CUET PG 2022 Schedule, the admission test will be held from September 1 to September 11, 2022, for all registered candidates. The test will be held in about 500 cities in India and 13 exam centers abroad.
