A new change has been exercised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) from the academic year 2022-2023. The UGC has decided to conduct a common entrance test (CET) for UG and PG admissions in central Universities. The CET test will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). If possible; the admission into PhD course NET score can be used.
In the recent UGC letter to Vice Chancellors of all Universities detailed about the CET and admission processes. "All central Universities are hereby advised to take appropriate measures accordingly for the Common Entrance Test from the academic session 2022-2023. These tests will be conducted in at least 13 languages in which NTA is already conducting JEE and NEET examinations."
CET Committee
According to the commission certain changes have to be made as per the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The NTA will conduct a common aptitude test for students. In addition there will be tests for specialised common subject exams in the sciences, humanities, languages, arts, and vocational subjects in higher education institutions. The CET committee will propose the modalities for the new test pattern.
A committee was constituted to look into the matter and to suggest the modalities for conducting the test for central universities, the commission stated. Also the test can be adopted by the willing state/private universities/deemed to be universities also. After several rounds of discussions, the committees finalised the CET details on the VC meeting from all Central Universities held on November 21. The Ministry of Education had also approved the system of common entrance test from the 2021 academic session for admission to central universities.
