A great administrator and counsellor, Dr. Radhika Vidyasagar is presently serving as the Principal at GRT COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, TIRUTANI. She has served as a master trainer for police well-being through NIMHANS and Tamilnadu Police. Her dedication and passion towards the profession have been recognized by the Dr. Radhakrishnan State Award and uplifted her as a State Level Master of Ceremonies. What do you think are your roles and responsibilities being a Principal?

“Driving the wholesome academic and operational procedures”

Being the principal of the college, I promote the professional and academic growth of prospective teachers and prospective teacher educators. I suggest appropriate changes and ensure adherence to approved policies, practices and procedures within the area of responsibility. Also, I co-ordinate and foster the development within the institution to meet the needs of interest of faculty members and students. My role is also to maintain or direct the maintenance of records of files. I also have to work cooperatively with outside agencies such as society, cooperative schools, community centers, colleges of education etc. I strive to maintain good communication and public relations towards the institutional property and precautions to be taken to safeguard the health and well-being of staff and students. I always try to enhance the research attitude among prospective teacher educators.


How do you strategize the key plans for the marketing of your College?

“Establishing a structured and progrresive approach”

The steps that we follow start with identifying the resources and tools needed to achieve the goals. Then action plans are prepared to set, plan, assess, mobilize and execute. We are prepared to constantly review the plans and stay well informed about the new technologies which could help the profession. Our aim is to exhibit the talents of the students in society through various programmes as well. It would help us to build a good rapport and keep up the public image of the institution. Cordial relationships between colleges and other universities strengthen us in many ways.


What are some valuable insights of the program that you offer at your college?

“Highly beneficial academic designing”

The college has a professional quality of faculty members for the students. The standard of moulding the students is unique for our college and we have a strong structural organization of the college. Through the courses and programs that we offer, the inherent talents of the students are located. The administrative and organizing skills of the students are enriched, and we constantly conduct case studies and action research in the local area to enrich their capacities as well.

What are the types of projects that the students are working on through your programs?

“A number of skilled and survey projects in diverse sectors”

There are many projects that are being conducted for the benefit of the student as well as society. Environmental surveys in co-operative schools are done by the students. We also conduct many skill development projects, Community based development projects, Innovative practices in methodology curriculum followed in various schools. We collect Institutional data of co-operative schools and colleges of Education to do surveys. We conduct yoga development in schools and provide reflective reading as well. Self–development projects, Assessment based projects, Thesis based on teachers, students and parents, etc. are done.


How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students?

“Spreading positivity and strengthening communications”

We establish healthy relations with the students by being empathetic with them. A good relationship is developed through guidance and counseling, a positive approach, periodical interaction with students, and trusting and encouraging them. We also arrange field trips for the students and faculties to interact with them in a better manner.


Tell us about the new programs you plan to introduce in your college?

“More practical and technical skill sessions”

College has planned to introduce the ‘SWAYAM’ platform to both teaching fraternity and students. FDPs, workshops, seminars are arranged and planning to execute the same in the coming future. Communication skill development training programmes are planned as well for the students and faculties. Soft skills and life skills are to be imparted by various programs, and technical skills are to be strengthened via workshops and hands on sessions. We are planning to have extension activities in the college and also we will be implementing integrated courses for the students.
