Shabrin Farhana is currently working as Centre Head- Chennai at Footwear Design and Development Institute, Kanchipuram. With more than 15 years of experience in design education, research and practice, her areas of expertise include Design Drawing, Fashion Illustration, Stylization, History of Art and Design, History of Fashion etc. Shabrin Farhana research papers have been published in various well reputed journals, and she has presented papers in conferences and seminars at both national and international levels.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Lifelong learning improves us forever”

I believe education is the only field where we can grow with learners. We can bring relevant changes in ourselves and society at large to have a prosperous life. It is a service industry to develop learners’ careers, so I think this is my key factor in leading me to be in this sector. 


How would you describe your leadership style?

“Motivation, support and comfort”

According to me, a good leadership quality is motivating a group of people to develop mutually to advance an organisation together. Leading an organisation is a team work; my success completely depends on colleagues, their support and cooperation. Understanding a colleague's problem and giving a comfortable working atmosphere is true leadership.

In FDDI all the programmes are completely practical oriented with strong theory parts. Our labs are completely structured the same as an industrial setup, so it is easy for the students from our college to switch to industry. FDDI is under the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (Govt.of India) and has INI [Institute of National Importance] standard. As we are having an International testing centre for testing the quality for Footwear and components, students get an opportunity to experience and learn the fundamentals of testing in an effective way by experts. We have very experienced and skilful faculty providing professional education and knowledge. Also, we offer excellent lab facilities and direct exposure to industries so that students can gain the best experience.
