P.G. Anandhakrishnan has been working as the Head of Fashion Designing Department at Saveetha College of Architecture and Design, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He has done B. Sc. and M. Sc. in Fashion Textiles and Designing from SSM College of Arts & Science which is affiliated under Periyar University. He has an amazing 10 years of professional experience working in different industries including Garment Export Industry, Branding Marketing and Academics. And he cherishes working with Textile Industry the most as during his tenure in this industry, he has learned about various sewing technologies, garment manufacturing processes and surface embellishment experience in designing artwork for print, Marketing and Merchandiser and had gathered hands-on experience on software like CorelDraw, Photoshop, Illustrator and Tuka CAD. He has been associated with the education sector for the last 8 years. During his professional tenure in Export, Branding and Marketing industries, he was associated with the VV Knitting & Exports of Tirupur as a Junior Merchandiser & Sampling In-charge, Renaatus Procon Pvt Ltd. of Erode as a Branding Officer and Apparel Training Designing Center in Chennai Egmore and Lastly he joined Saveetha College of Architecture and Design.

Which best practices are you offering to students to make your college programs unique and worth pursuing for them?

"Our college provides regular industry connect sessions and training programs to students"

We offer real-time industry connect programs to students and regularly display to them about different kinds of design processes which are used in garment and manufacturing industries and boutiques. In addition to this, students are given enough opportunities to explore and experience the latest practices of the Fashion Designing industry like how branding, merchandising is done for a product and different kinds of Visual Merchandising and Quality Assurance techniques which are used in industries. 


How do the programs of your college ensure the future preparedness of students?

"We train our students on modern drawing software and graphics editors like Illustrator and Corel draw"

Through our amazing programs, we educate our students about various kinds of printing and dyeing techniques and drawing softwares like Illustrator, Corel Draw and CAD. Apart from this, we have established advanced research facilities and Garment Construction Labs to conduct experiments and practical and also these labs are used by students to apply learned industrial skills. 


How did you train your faculties to deliver courses to students in the best possible way?

"We connect with each other regularly to share knowledge about latest technologies and industrial development"

Being the Department Head and also a faculty, it's my responsibility to keep myself and my department teachers updated about the latest happenings of fashion designing industries and aesthetics, equipment and technologies these industries use on a daily basis. So to ensure the same, we conduct internal discussions and knowledge sharing sessions on a regular basis.

How do you establish a connection between your college's programs and industry demands?

"By involving industry people in curriculum implementation and organizing professional visits"

For the purpose of delivering employment and industry oriented education to students, we regularly organize workshops on advanced technologies and invite guest speakers and industry experts to have interactive sessions with us and our students. And another purpose of this practice is to educate students about the experiences and difficulties which experts have faced in their professional career and what exactly are their expectations from our students. Apart from this, industrial visits and educational tours are conducted by us as and when required to guide students about the modern gadgets, techniques and technologies being applied in the Fashion industry.


What challenges have you faced while inculcating new programs in your curriculum?

"As of now we are not facing any hurdles as we have amazing Faculties to teach students"

All the faculty members of our college are highly qualified and have extensive and real-time industrial and teaching experience. And their skills are must and mandatory for us to groom our students personally and professionally and make them technically competent and proficient Fashion Designers and Architectures. Therefore, we don’t find any kind of issues in implementing our latest courses in the curriculum.


On what types of projects your students are currently working on under their respective courses?

"Our students are working on different kinds of projects by using various design processes"

Our students first finish their internal practical activities and experiments which are assigned to them by us. And after this, they need to undergo an external internship program in a reputed industry to learn about various tools and technologies which are used by industry people in daily work. This also helps them to stay updated with latest developments and requirements about the industrial world. Lastly, students work on a wide variety of projects involving different Design Processes and Design Collection. 


What career opportunities would be available to students after pursuing courses from your college?

"Students will have enough scope in and they can work as a Fashion or Jewellery Designer and Merchandiser"

As far as I have observed the market development and requirements, I can confirm that enormous work opportunities are present in the outside world for skillful fashion designers. So, students after successfully completing Fashion Designing courses from our college can work as a Brand Manager, Merchandiser, Production Manager, Quality Assurance/Controller, Home Furnishing Consultant, Fashion Show Manager, Designer, Product Designer, Toy Designer, Stylist, Jewelry Designer, Graphic Designer, 3D Designer and as a Web Designer.
