Dr. Nirmal Kumar Mandal has been working as the Registrar of Radha Govind University, Ramgarh, Jharkhand.

Radha Govind University

Being the Registrar of RGU, what are your responsibilities towards the students?

"To educate my students and supervise the admission process in college"

My prime role here at RGU is to teach the students, manage the university work properly and as I am the head of the Admission Committee, so taking care of the admission process for students, guiding them about scope and job opportunities a particular course offers also comes under the ambiance of my responsibility.

When you joined Radha Govind University, what was your vision for it?

"It was to develop both college and students in the best possible way"

Because I love educating my dear students and youths of our society, hence when I joined Radha Govinda University, my aim at that time was to provide the finest quality education and amenities to students and give them an ambiance where they themselves can grow and help others to grow.

How do you introduce a practical and industry driven approach towards subjects?

"Through industry-interaction sessions, guest lectures and virtual learning programs"

For the purpose of enforcing an industry driven approach towards subjects, we regularly organize industry-interaction sessions and virtual learning sessions where eminent industry experts of reputed organizations are called upon to share their experiences and expectations with us. The main aim behind this is to give best practical exposure to students and send them for internship in the best organization by developing their skills. Apart from this, we also send them to work on a wide variety of live industry owned projects.

Which best practices are offered by the college to students to help them to gain necessary skills?

"Personally development trainings, mock interviews, group discussion sessions are arranged by us"

To make our students capable enough so that they can compete in the outside world with more confidence, we regularly organize mock interviews, group discussion sessions, personal interview sessions, and classes on communication skills. In addition to this, to enhance their interaction with the corporate world and educate them how things actually work at the ground level, industrial visits are arranged, competitions like startup plan competitions are also organized to give them hands-on experience.

How do you prepare your students to endure the outside competitive world?

"By motivating students to not waste their time and use each minute of their day to acquire some good skills"

I firmly believe that making a career in the Management discipline is a very good choice, but again competition is very high in the outside world. Therefore, I keep encouraging my students to work hard and develop those skills which are in demand in the industrial world, because only then they will be able to present themselves confidently in front of others. And skills don't come only by reading books unless and until you work on real time projects where you can implement your ideas. And because every student cannot have the same set of skills so we offer them learning opportunities according to their strengths and weaknesses.

What are your views on the placements of students of your college?

"To improve placement statistics of our college, we keep upgrading our teaching practices"

The main objective of our college is to make our students placement and industry ready by imparting the right skills to them at the right time. Hence we keep upgrading our courses, training and teaching methodologies to fill the gap between students skills and industrial demands. Every faculty of our institute works dedicatedly for the betterment of our students.

What challenges are you facing to uplifting the education quality of your University?

"Students are focused to get good marks only and not taking studies seriously"

One of the major roadblock in front of us currently is students' lack of interest in acquiring actual skills and practical knowledge of subjects, as from the time they join us to pursue their dreams, their main aim remains to score good marks only. They do not understand that only having good marks and a Degree will not help them to get anywhere and they need to have a wide variety of skills to secure a better career for themselves.

What approaches do you bring apart from the curriculum to teach the students?

"We conduct skill development and discussion sessions for students frequently"

For the purpose of ensuring overall growth of our students, we firstly identify what are their strengths and weaknesses after having a one-to-one discussion with them. And we organize skill oriented training and we also have the subject known as personality growth which is taught to students by a specialized faculty to improve communication, presentation and listening skills of students. Overall our main aim remains to impart such quality education to students which can bring a lot of scope for them in future.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students to have a prosperous career?

"Set achievable goals for yourself because then only you will be able to grow in your life"

I would like to advise my students to define realistic and achievable goals for themselves and don't assume things hypothetically else you will land nowhere. Come out of your comfort zones, try new things because confronting challenges is way better than not doing anything due to fear of failure. And challenges always help you to enhance your skills and build confidence in you.
