Jaya Kumari is the HOD of the Political Science Department at the Netaji Subhas University. She did B.A., M.A., M.Phil, and has submitted her Ph.D. She is received ICSSR Research Fellow from 2017-2019.

What are your roles and responsibilities?

“To ensure updates of students' course and syllabus”

My primary responsibility is to deal with students and ensure they update the syllabus. I check out the library to access necessary books for pupils. Another duty is to convey issues of students with management.

How do you establish healthy relations with students and faculty?

“Provide a comfortable environment for students and ensure communication among all individuals”

A healthy relation builds through effective communication among students and faculty. We provide a comfortable environment for students. It assists them to share their issues regarding academics or any other matter.

How do you bring a practical approach towards subjects as industry-oriented?

“Social activities and public talks available to students in our campus”

The day-to-day activities rely on the Political science subject and it is linked with society. Our campus allows students to organize social activities and attend public talks to gather about social values. Hence, they get to know about theories and practical applications in the same manner.

What are the best practices offered in NSU for students to attain necessary skills?

“Workshops, sessions, seminars and conferences are provided to pupils”

The syllabus of campus updates each year for students. They attend various sessions about the latest developments in national politics. We provide workshops, seminars and conferences for them to get some skills.

How do you strategize the curriculum for students?

“Update curriculum each year and give projects to pupils”

Our campus updates the curriculum every year for students. They get assignments, projects, discussions, and youth parliaments inside the campus. It helps them to acquire essential skills for their future.

What are your views upon the placements and higher in campus?

“Provide internships and several opportunities for students' growth”

Our students get counseling based on higher studies and their interests. Internships started at the final year for pupils. It assists them to attain skills and the first batch of Political science is graduating after this year from our campus.

What challenges do you face to uplift the education quality of NSU?

“Scarcity of books in libraries and the interactive teaching-learning process”

I have noticed that students did not relate to topics in their courses. It is due to a lack of interactive teaching-learning process. Another difficulty is the scarcity of books in the library. The management tries to help the campus to get some more books in our library.

How does the curriculum of NSU ensure industrial practice?

“Internships, Placements, and industry visits are provided to pupils”

The students get several opportunities to interact with the industry. Some of these include internships, placements and industry visits every year for pupils. Our curriculum is designed as per the latest trends and updated each time.

How does the department enhance the skills of faculty as per industry standards?

“Faculty development workshops and meetings available to teaching staff in our campus”

The issues faced by faculties are overcome through frequent meetings organized in our department. They get the chance to participate in workshops at several universities. It increases their skillset and makes them able to deal with students easily.

What approaches do you bring apart from the curriculum to train the students?

“Group discussions, debates, and training programs available to students”

We try to make an interactive classroom for students. Several activities are organized on our campus and it includes group discussions/ debates. Moreover, students get training programs to attend interviews without any fear. All these aid them to deal with the current world scenario.

“Highly qualified faculties and smart students in our campus”

One of the greatest strengths is students and faculty. Their dedication, and passion represent us. It encourages us to build a better supportive environment.
