Hitasha Girotra Admission Experience

  1. Describe the general setting of WAT / GD (if any)?

Hitasha Girotra: As a part of the NMIMS selection process, students have to go through a case discussion process wherein they are divided into groups of at least 6 students. As I walked into the college observing the infrastructure and navigating my way, I saw my name shining on the board on the list appearing 1st in the order of Case discussion. I couldn't be more elated and confident. As I went into the college to a designated room waiting for my turn to be called , I observed 2 panelists who gave us instructions on the case study , how we all would be given 5 minutes to read through the caselet and may make points on the designated sheet.

The panelists gave a clear instruction on not to make a mess and put our points across patiently. We all followed suit and allowed everyone to speak up and indulge in a conversion rather than a debate. All things said and done after a duration of 15 minutes we were done with the overall CD process smoothly and had to leave the room greeting the panelists and wait for instructions on PI.

  1. What was the WAT / GD Topic?

Hitasha Girotra: My case discussion was a 5-6 line case study on a Airline and problems related to its management. Majorly the case was focused on how delay in flight booking and cancellation messages to the passengers was denting its brand image and faith of its customers. The company was also experiencing low performance in relation to its competitors and also receiving complaints on bad food quality on flight.

We had to identify the issues and highlight them. We also had to make some recommendations to improve the situation going forward.

  1. Describe the general setting of your personal Interview.

Hitasha Girotra: As I entered the classroom knocking on the door to seek permission. I observed 3 male panelists sitting as interviewers. I greeted the panelists as they asked me to introduce myself and where I am from. During the interview I was asked questions on General awareness and business acumen.

Upon completion of my interview , I thanked each of the panelists as I stood to enter out of the room. My overall experience was satisfactory , however just like any other student I too was anxious whether or not I will convert it.

Some of the tips to ace admission interview:-

  1. Always enter the room by knocking on the door to seek permission (if it's offline) , online just greet the panelists and wait for their question.
  2. Be well prepared on questions about you and your background.
  3. Read through all the review portals about students' experience in such interviews of a particular college.
  4. Answer the questions confidently .Take 4-5 seconds before you actually speak the answer.
  5. If you are not sure of any particular question , frankly tell the panelists instead of not replying.
  6. Enter out of the room by thanking the panelists .

  1. Mention 3 reasons why you chose this college over other colleges which you converted.

Hitasha Girotra: While being in the waiting list for SIDTM (Symbiosis Institute of Digital and Technology Management) , I took admission in NMIMS, Indore .After 2 years of my MBA ,I can say that this was the best decision of my life for following reasons-

  1. Faculty: NMIMS Indore has the most supportive and intellectual teachers I have come across in my life. The teachers not only teach the curriculum but also leave the room for self learning by providing projects that are contemporary and prevalent. Before the Pandemic, classroom sessions were filled with active discussions on contemporary business topics as well as theories. The same was continued even when the mode of study shifted to online with a pandemic making all the students feel as connected as offline mode.
  1. Brand Reputation: NMIMS being one of the top most prestigious B-school , has a brand reputation that stands out from the crowd. NMIMS ,Indore which was at the time of my admission just 2 years old had achieved tremendous success in terms of activities and placements which made me choose this college over any other. Within 2 years of my MBA , I have observed it developing into one of the successful colleges of NMIMS and with time it will only grow multi fold.
  1. Infrastructure: NMIMS, Indore has every facility a B-school student could ask for. From a massive library to Air conditioned classroom. Students have all the comfort to study and prepare for placements while being in college. Its cafeteria has a space large enough to fit students from all the streams at college and allows them to interact while eating freshly prepared food from the canteen.

  1. What was the reason for you not converting to other colleges?

Hitasha Girotra: While getting admission in NMIMS, Indore I was in the waiting list for SIBF and SITM .

I had given GD and PI for both these colleges and was awaiting my result for the same as my awaiting number was in the 100's. I couldn't convert these colleges.

I believe the reason for me not getting converted was the lack of confidence and preparation in the first stage. Being one of the first interviews of B-school admissions , I was naive in terms of handling questions regarding why this college or particular course. However, I tried to learn from my experience and gain confidence to convert NMIMS, Indore.
