What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“A strong knowledge of the range of instructional tools available to address student’s needs”

To relate to the education sector, I always had extensive knowledge of the instructional environment. This includes individual student’s needs, strengths, and aspects of the instructional programs. I usually develop a data-driven understanding and knowledge of the academic environment. I follow a team-based approach to research and vet research-proven programs.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

I would describe my leadership style as direct and leading by example”

I enjoy delegating tasks and taking the lead on projects, but I also like to stay involved and inspire my team. For example, as Pro VC of Sage University Indore, we had an emergency where our Sage website went down. I quickly delegated tasks to my website team and got on the phone with the students myself to find out more information for the website team. I gave the students temporary steps they could take to manage the issue.

What can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

“A wide spectrum of courses offered for different interests of students”

Sage University Indore offers its students a wide range of courses and specializations to choose from. Besides the core fields, i.e., engineering and management colleges, there are excellent options in Aviation, Microbiology, Business Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Business Law, Cyber Security, Design, and Agriculture institutes in Sage. Every institute is structurally different and has something different and unique to offer. So, we help students to pick the option that helps them progress and lets them develop their skills.

What do you think your responsibilities to the University and the students are?

“To commit all efforts to provide the maximum benefit from the teaching and learning experience”

We make sure that both students and the University fulfill their responsibilities to ensure that the learning experience is the best in every way. Given the COVID-19 crisis, we remain committed to the responsibilities and adapted to the digital delivery of education. We ensure that the health, safety, and wellbeing of our students and staff remains our top priority. Most of our teaching and services are delivered in a blended way both online and on campus.

What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

We provide an excellent academic curriculum based on sound analysis of the needs of industry”

Sage University Indore aims to improve its academic performance and student success by attaining each of the following strategic priorities:

  • Support a diverse classroom and University culture that fuels a passion for lifetime learning.
  • Increase relevance of instruction to student needs both personally and in the workplace.
  • Improve educational attainment levels in the region by increasing the ease of higher education access and assisting students in identifying life and academic goals.
  • Increase student success rates across all disciplines while maintaining academic rigor and quality.

What are some of the biggest challenges for higher education?

“A gap in supply and demand along with lack of Project-Based Learning”

  • India’s gross enrollment rate (GER) is just 19% which is not good. GER is 6% below the world average and at least 50% less than developed countries.
  • Mushrooming of low-quality institutes all over the country is not good for higher education. These new colleges lack capacity, and they are all about fleecing money from students and their parents.
  • Higher education lacks project-based learning. Young graduates need to learn new skills, especially vocational skills that can give them jobs.
  • There is no strategy for higher education in India. We don’t have foreign students coming to the country and studying here. Government has no plan for this, and this is a big challenge.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the aspiring students?

“Be an independent thinker and take guidance from a senior mentor”

  • Think before you act. The simple but effective process of thought will help you avoid making critical mistakes.
  • Find an adult mentor. A responsible adult knows what is best for your well-being. Do not be a follower.
  • Without being a loner, you can separate yourself from the group of people who are not involved in positive things and still have a social life.
