You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What keeps you connected with the Education Sector and how has your experience been so far with the institute?

"Academic leaders and faculties need to learn, unlearn and relearn"

Higher education, in particular management education, has undergone a significant transformation during the pandemic. Academic leaders and faculties need to learn, unlearn and relearn and continue to innovate. My experience with the institute has been very rewarding, as I have moved across different roles and programs and have had the opportunity to closely interact with faculties, staff, and students across all our international campuses.

Being the (Designation) – (Dept. Name) of SPJSGM, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

"My role involves close interactions and mentoring of students right from their selection"

Being the Associate Dean of Master of Global Business of SPJSGM, my primary role is to create outstanding 360° student learning experience throughout their MGB program across all our campuses. This involves working with faculty and staff across campuses to ensure high-quality immersive learning through in-class and out-of-class activities that SPJSGM is known for. My role involves close interactions and mentoring of students right from their selection, and orientation, during their academic journey, and most importantly during their internships.

Do you have any extracurricular activities or programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

"The purpose of PRP is to equip students with essential skills and mindset for a successful global career"

The Tri-city or Multi-city model of SPJSGM is anchored in the philosophy of crafting global business leaders through a transformative immersive learning experience. Apart from the business research projects that address real-world practical issues, students also benefit from two distinct initiatives:

  • Global Learning activities: These are specially curated immersive activities that expose students to business, social and cultural diversity across three different regions that our students study in, mainly Dubai, Singapore, and Sydney.
  • Professional Readiness Program: MGB program attracts fresh graduates and students with limited prior work experience. The purpose of PRP is to equip students with essential skills and mindsets for a successful global career. Students discover their career aspirations and participate in a range of individual, small and large group activities to refine their employability and leadership skills.

In addition, students get to interact and network with a diverse group of business leaders during ‘Guest Speaker’ sessions that are focused on emerging business issues and trends.

What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from the curriculum to train/teach the students?

SP Jain depends on innovative pedagogy and technology to enhance the student learning experience. What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for SP Jain School of Global Management specifically?

"Higher education needs to rise to these challenges with a coherent, learner-centric strategy"

While the pandemic is behind us, we are yet to fully understand its long-term impact in several areas, including the higher education sector. In general, the higher education sector is facing threefold challenges; paradigm shift and evolution of new learning models such as hybrid and virtual that are shaking the traditional model; the impact of technology on learning and teaching, and most importantly the issue of learning deficit experienced by students due to the pandemic. This learning deficit is not limited to just academic knowledge and employability skills, but concerns deeper issues of social, emotional, and mental skill levels of learners. Higher education needs to rise to these challenges with a coherent, learner-centric strategy.
