What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?
“To help students excel academically, socially and professionally”
As a Faculty of the Media Studies department at the Institute of Leadership Entrepreneurship and Development (iLEAD), my job profile is not just limited to teaching. It involves a wide range of mentoring activities for the students. It includes Batch Co-ordination where I try to solve their problems pertaining to their subjects and daily life on the campus. Additionally, I also advise them on the future that lies ahead. It often involves discussing their area of specialization, how to approach companies and prepare for interviews.
How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?
“With Google News Initiative, conducted a workshop on combating fake news”
Media Science as a domain demands practical knowledge apart from theoretical knowledge. To facilitate this, I often take my students for field visits (Newsrooms, Film and Television Production Sets, Art Galleries, etc). Various workshops and seminars from professionals are also organized by me to facilitate industry-oriented learning. Further, to help students combat the menace of fake news, I have organized a workshop on how to combat fake news in association with Google News Initiative.
What are the best practices offered by the department to the students?
“Experiential learning in the form of practical activities of this field”
Our college boasts of a state of the art audio and visual recording studio with technical experts always present to help them round the clock. Apart from this, various faculties of the Media Science department ensure a blended mode of learning where theoretical knowledge is aided by practical exposure. From learning how to operate a camera to designing a public relations campaign, the practical lessons are the heart and soul of our department at iLEAD.

How does your department prepare students for Higher education?
“Seminars and FAQ sessions from global agencies for students benefit”
iLEAD offers M.Sc. in Media Science as part of academia. Students looking forward to other courses are guided by the mentors (of all disciplines) at iLEAD. In this way, they will be able to move smoothly through academia. Several global agencies conduct seminars at the college to assist students throughout their application for foreign universities and subsequent selection.
How do you help your student to cope up with the competitive world?
“We train students to imbibe healthy competitive spirit during the course”
My classes are always supplemented with facts and hence, the quest to know the outside world starts from day 1 at iLEAD. Competition is something that keeps everyone on their toes and it is this simple thought that drives my classes for both the UG and PG students. Further, the placement cell at iLEAD prepares the students round the year on how to write curriculum vitae, how to crack an interview and how to find one’s own unique selling proposition.
What do you see as the department’s greatest strengths?
“Faculties that are Research scholars and Ph.D. holders strengthen us”
The department’s greatest strength is the faculties themselves. The department of Media Science at iLEAD boasts faculties. They have been part of the industry and are doctorates and research scholars. They are always on the quest to discover something new that will aid in the growth of the students. It can be further enhanced by engaging in faculty exchange programmes which will help in the promotion of new ideas and research.

What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?
“Set clear career objectives and detailed plans for your careers”
In today’s world, the internet offers a plethora of advice to everyone. There is information overload at the behest of a single click. I urge the students to always divide their career goals into a set of objectives and aims. It must act as a blueprint to success. One’s own dedication fuelled by the desire to achieve the best will always lead a person to success. It becomes extremely crucial for everyone to realize their ambition and the path to achieve it. It is the key to having a prosperous career ahead. To sum it up in the words of our Chairman, Mr Pradip Chopra, inspired by Confucius, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
