Amandeep Kaur is the HOD of Budha College of Design, Karnal. She did Bachelors of Home science from Govt. P.G. college, Karnal, Haryana and Masters of Clothing and Textiles in Guru Nanak Girls College, Yamuna Nagar, Haryana. She qualified NET in 2011 and is pursuing Phd. in Fashion Designing from Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun. She is the Training and Examination coordinator of the Department and Member of “Board of studies” in Lovely Professional University. The courses cover the gamut of basic construction of clothing , textiles, pattern making, Computer aided design, sketching, painting , sculpture, graphic designing, interior designing and architecture designing. The courses offered by BGI have excellent links with industry both through live projects and external competitions as well as collaborations with industry experts. The gap between the theoretical knowledge and the practice of skills is widening. We give Craft cluster internship, Internships in the industries and live work experiences with artisans to ensure that they get industry exposure during their regular classes and fully aligned with the industry at the time of employment.


What were the challenges that you faced while inculcating this program in your curriculum?

These are fast-paced, creative and energetic courses where a student’s creativity needs to be nurtured by providing a rigorous grounding in practical and technical skills needed for career success. The course are structured through a process of interaction with industry people so that the demand of Industry and technology can be fulfilled by the student’s learning and creative skills.


What are the types of projects students are working on through this program?

The projects which are done by the students give them the freedom to explore how art practice intersects with current visual, cultural and societal concerns. Students works on the making reports on trade fairs, designer’s shows, museum exhibitions and industrial internships. They also work on their design portfolios, 2D or 3D orientations, paintings, sculptures, installations, interior design models etc.
