In your college, what is the admissions rate? Has it increased over the past year?

“New student admissions decreased by about 8% last year”

The rate of admission is more than 90%. Admission of new students decreased last year by about 8%. The main reason is due to the apprehension of parents to keep their children in college hostels, because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Patkai is a residential college with more than 80% of students living in hostels on a 1000 acres campus. 

What new programs have you added to your college?

“A total of three new postgraduate programs will be offered in Physics, Botany, and Zoology"

The Bachelor Degree program in Multimedia and Mass Communication has been offered since 2018. This year, 3 new postgraduate programmes will be started, namely MSc. in Physics, Botany and Zoology.

What extracurricular activities do you have that enhance the students' skills?

“A student-centred program that allows students to hone their skills in various fields"

Students are encouraged to actively participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Essential skills like time management, leadership development, critical thinking, creative thinking, effective communication, and entrepreneurship are taught to students through various programmes. These are initiated and conducted by NCC, NSS, Red Cross, Red Ribbon, Young Indians (Yi), women cell and counselling centres.

What is your philosophy of leadership? 

"Team performance can be improved continuously with proper leadership and inspiration"

To me, leadership means responsibility and accountability. I believe that the only way for an institution to keep moving ahead is through motivation and encouragement. Through proper guidance and inspiration, the team’s performance can be enhanced constantly.

What are some of the biggest challenges faced by higher education?

“The proliferation of low-quality institutions, and inadequate government financing”

Some of the biggest challenges facing higher education are the mushrooming of low-quality institutions, inadequate financing by the government and lack of project-based learning. There is too much emphasis on theory and not enough on practical knowledge.

The challenges faced by Patkai Christian College is competition from neighbourhood institutions and the generation of financial resources for the promotion of research. In addition, teaching personnel management and career advancement schemes are challenging. The vast campus is located in a rural/forested setting, which is an opportunity as well as a challenge.

What would you like people to know about your university they may not know?

"First autonomous college in Nagaland State to offer PG courses"

Amid green forests, Patkai Christian College is spread over 1000 acres. About 95% of faculty, staff and students reside within the campus. It is the first affiliated autonomous college in Nagaland state to introduce Postgraduate courses. It is also the first autonomous college in Northeast India. The only college in the Northeast region of India to have the honour of Autonomy, UGC awarded CPE and NAAC Grade ‘A’, all at the same time. The college has a unique Bachelor of Music programme with state of the art infrastructural facilities. International teachers and students, as well as students from 9 states within India study there.

In what ways does the College's curriculum ensure best practices in the industry?

"Specialized courses that develop industry-oriented skills and a CBCS system"

The College introduced UGC recommended Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in 2016. Skill enhancement courses, which form an integral part of the system are given much emphasis. These unique courses are designed to suit the need of industries.

How do you prepare your students for the current competitive environment?

“Experienced faculty provide career counselling and intensive coaching”

Career counselling and specialized coaching by experienced faculty for public service examinations are given top priority. The final year students of undergraduate and graduate programmes are especially encouraged to participate. Besides academic issues, students can also receive counselling on other matters of their college lives.
