Dr V. Anuradha has been working as the Head of Biochemistry Department at Mohamed Sathak College of Arts and Science, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She has completed PhD in Biochemistry and has expertise in Molecular Biology, Clinical Enzymology and Bioinformatics softwares. She has 21 years of amazing experience in the teaching and research field. She has been a recognised supervisor of University of Madras. Also 8 students have completed their PhD under her supervision and 4 PhD students are doing their research under her guidance. She has presented research papers in various national conferences and has also published research articles in various reputed peer reviewed international journals.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

"My urge of upgrading my skills, doing research and educating students have kept me associated"

Teaching students and youths and doing research on various technologies has been my passion from the very start. And my urge to regularly upgrade my knowledge and skills, and share the same with my dear students altogether has kept me associated with the education sector for so long. 

Being the Department Head at Mohamed Sathak College, what is your philosophy of leadership? 

"A true leader inspire and instruct the team in right direction to achieve common desired goals"

I strongly believe that leadership is all about inspiring, instructing, leading the team in the right direction and in the best possible way so as to achieve the desired goals of an academic institution. Hence, as a leader, I assure that my team is upskilled and we are ready to take any kind of challenges so that we can contribute maximum in the growth of our institute and students. 

How do you strategize the key programs for the marketing and administration of your college?

"By analyzing industrial requirements and academic standards"

We have only one vision and that is to ensure the best education for all, especially for the students coming from underprivileged and economically weaker sections of the society. Hence to strengthen the administration of our college and enhance our presence among our potential future students, we conduct programs which are in line with the best academic practices and industrial standards. 

In your experience, what benefits students can gain from studying here in your institute?

"They will get employment oriented education and world class amenities here"

I firmly believe that the way of delivery education and academic standards of colleges and universities is more or less same throughout the globe. And our dedicated staff use the college facilities and labs infra in the best possible way to educate our students so that they don't lack any technical skills which are in demand in an outside competitive world.

How does the curriculum of your College ensure the best practices of industry?

"It is backed by best education practices like professional visits, internships and projects"

We adopt multiple approaches including extensive experiments which are conducted in labs to strengthen students theoretical knowledge, field visits, expert lectures, presentations using latest ICT tools to teach our students. In addition to this, projects are assigned to students on a regular basis and faculty members try to keep the classes as more interactive as possible. And the main motive behind this approach is to ensure best practical learning for students and our Placement Cell maintains good relationships with our industry partners for better training programs for students. Lastly, internships are offered to students to give them the real taste of how industry works and we constantly update our curriculum based on industry developments.

How is your institute more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

"Our college is completely ragging free and we also offer scholarships to students"

Our college promotes the ambiance of equality so that students can learn and grow here without any difficulty and issues. And our campus is free of any kind of ragging or harassment and if someone is found doing so strict actions are taken accordingly. We are further helping our students to avail scholarships provided by government, NGO’s and philanthropists and trust based financial assistance is also provided. 

What are your roles and responsibilities for the institute and students?

"I am responsible to deliver best education to students and make them socially sensitive"

Being the Department Head and Professor of college, my prime responsibility is to offer quality education to students and inculcate best and moral and ethical values in them so that they can build a healthy lifestyle for themselves and contribute to the growth of society as well. And if I talk about college, then my responsibility is to promote collaborative research and help in conducting student/faculty exchange programs to enhance the reputation of our institution.

What do you think should be the college’s top priority over the next 10 years?

"We should introduce new value added courses in our curriculum"

Our institute is planning to introduce skill based programs and value added courses in the curriculum to help students acquire new skills and secure jobs in good companies. So I firmly believe that we should focus on implementing the same on the earliest basis. Along with this, we should emphasize collaborative research programs, organize national and international level conferences on a regular basis and motivate faculty members to publish more research papers. 

When you first came to this college, what was your vision for it and how far have you come in implementing them?

"My aim at the time of joining was to uplift the students belonging to weaker sections of society"

As our college works to offer the finest quality education to students belonging to under-privileged and economically unstable sections of the society. So I joined this amazing institute with the vision of uplifting the students and giving them a more purposeful life to live by enhancing their skills and giving them an appropriate platform to showcase their hidden talents. And this could be implemented by upgrading our teaching methodologies and offering best lab facilities to students. 

What makes your college unique in comparison to others?

"We address students issues on an individual basis and ensure they remain healthy and fit"

We follow a mentor-mentee system in our college where we have assigned a mentor to each student. And these mentors address students' queries and issues, offer undivided attention and care and motivate students to excel in academics and all other activities organized by the college itself. In addition to this, we have inhouse medical professionals and student counselors to ensure students stay physically fit and mentally healthy.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see for your institute specifically?

"Lack of finances to establish R&D facilities in college is our biggest challenge"

The biggest roadblock in front of us currently is of sufficient funds to establish world class infrastructure and research and development facilities in college. And due to the same reason, we are somewhere lacking in delivering best to our dear students.
