The education sector has drastically changed over the past and has moved from chalk and talk to webinars

The education sector is quite an interesting field to have a career. There's joy in constantly interacting with young, enthusiastic students and also helping them shape their careers by imparting quality education. Not just that, one needs to be in regular touch with industry experts as well to keep the syllabus and curriculum updated. Only then, we will be able to provide the students with job opportunities and help them with entrepreneurship. In my career of 20+ years in the education field, the most interesting one is the current digitization of education. Vast amount of knowledge is available on the internet and not just that we are trying to inculcate online education in our curriculum as well. It has changed from ‘Chalk and Talk mode’ to Laptops and webinars. All these challenging yet interesting changes have kept me close and connected to the education field.

We have introduced new tech programs for a better understanding of the subject for the students

Yes. We have introduced many new programmes in association with various industrial organizations such as IBM, Texas Instruments, K7, Siemens, Experts Hub. In collaboration with IBM we have set up a computer lab that is equipped with the latest software technologies as a part of our Career Initiative Program. Similarly, we have two specializations where the course is designed by experts from IBM according to the requirements of the industry ; ECE with specialization in IOT and Artificial Intelligence and CSE with specialization in Cloud computing and AI. These are courses that are in sync with industry requirements with state of art lab facilities. Apart from these we are in constant touch with industry experts from companies like Texas Instruments, K7, SIEMENS etc., to understand the skills required for employability in various industries. These inputs are in turn used to design our educational curriculum.

The roles of all the institutional stakeholders are well defined because we have transparent policies

We at St.Peter’s Institute of Higher Education and Research have transparent policies. The roles of all the institutional stakeholders are well defined. I take grievance redressal very seriously and any grievance brought to my notice is addressed immediately. Their power at SPIHER is completely Decentralized so that at each level of decision making, people will feel involved and part of a big organized system. We ensure there is absolute support for students and faculties to upgrade their skills and facilitate them to achieve their goals. I believe if all the stakeholders such as the parents, students, faculty, alumni and management are happy, the Institute will automatically progress.

Digitization is the key beyond pandemic

The biggest challenge I see for the entire higher education industry is the ongoing pandemic. As we know this pandemic, when it ends will create a new normal where digitization is the key. The early adopters will definitely have a huge strategic advantage. Apart from that, at an institutional level, I feel the motivational level of the current students is a big challenge. With the present scenario of recession like situation, engineering admissions have taken a huge hit and have drastically come down over the last 3 years. Besides, new engineering institutions are cropping up across the country. The biggest challenge is getting admissions every year with ever increasing competition.
