How does the curriculum of your University ensure best practice of the industry?

“Bestowing industrial elements with full practical exposure”

I believe a strong industry interface is very essential for the students as well as the faculty to see what requirements and challenges are being faced by the industry and how we can cope up with them. For students to identify industrial problems and evaluate their theoretical learning with respect to reality, we have designed a well-structured curriculum with integration with a large number of industries to allow students and faculty to visit them regularly. We have also established a product gallery for companies to show their products and students can get full exposure to the technicalities involved in designing and working modules. 


Any insights on a new program you have started so far?

“Two-tier program for social upbringing of students”

We not only have a system for imparting knowledge in the technical domain, it is equally important for the students to understand the society, environment and the community. We have launched a two-credit course- Community engagement programmer, which is part of the curriculum itself. Students are required to visit the community in an even and odd semesters as per schedule, and are expected to do surveys of different aspects of life, economy, society, environmental issues, education, sanitation etc. Besides that, a student has to choose his or her own project from their interested area-project that involves identifying problems, writing suggestions, making a plan for spreading awareness about different issues and policies of the government.

Sharda University is a truly multidisciplinary university, offering diverse course programs like nursing, medical, dental, law, engineering, science, architecture and design etc. So, here opportunity is inculcated in every multi-disciplinary project, study and research centre in the university making it a wide education hub. We are now targeting at improving the teaching-learning process by introducing outcome-based assessments implying transformational initiatives in the teaching process to ensure higher engagement of students inside as well as outside the classroom. We have established some of the high-end research centres - machine learning and artificial intelligence, where experts are hired from very reputed institutes to demonstrate and educate students.

What measures have you taken to bridge the gap between faculty and students? 

“Strong monitoring system and guidance in different aspects”

To ensure engagement of students in the classrooms and with the faculty, we carry out a statistical analysis on a regular basis. With no serious checks and measures, student participation is enhanced using the ERP system, where the attendance of the students and the faculty members are updated instantly. Also, the time table is centralised bringing uniformity and integration leading to healthy relations between students and staff. Also, we have a faculty mentorship unit who looks after the welfare and day to day concerns of a set of students inside the campus. Faculty members guide students when they are undergoing an internship or a project under the curriculum. This is how we ensure student faculty engagement inside and outside the classroom.


What measures have you taken to bridge the gap between theoretical and practical learning? 

“Potential practical practices and entrepreneurship opportunities”

We have associations with many industries and programs; a faculty is also allotted for proper guidance of students. We have capstone projects and well-equipped laboratories for hands-on learning as well. For ensuring quality in lab practices, we have a lab vigilance committee for lab readiness that helps students identify and understand the experiments properly. Also, we have an entrepreneurial cell which has been a launch pad for 135 students to become entrepreneurs so far. We have dedicated some space for construction of a student research and innovation centre apart from the research department in individual streams. The teachers are required to design the course well in advance in terms of what content is to be delivered in the lectures. We also give training to our teachers for effective teaching pedagogies.
