Dr. N. Kanya is the HOD of the IT department at Dr. M.G.R Educational and Research Institute. She did B.Sc, MSc, Ph.D (CSE) and M.Tech (CSE). She is a member of the Intuitions of Engineering & Technology. She has more than 12 years of experience in the education sector. She published papers in national and international journals. She received “ICON of Faculty“ award from Dr. MGR Educational & Research Institute in 2016, “Campus Ambassador Award “Dr. MGR Educational & Research Institute in 2019 and “Service Recognition Award” from Rotary International.

What are your roles and responsibilities?

“Ensure employability skills and a healthy atmosphere for pupils”

We focus on weak students to improve to the next level. My duty is to give employability skills to the students. Our campus ensures a healthy atmosphere for students. They get opportunities to pursue higher studies and become an entrepreneur. 


How do you establish healthy relations with students and fellow faculty? 

“Frequent interaction in classrooms, and a friendly environment”

We organize class Committee meetings, counseling and motivation for pupils. They get Industry readiness and placements from campus. Our faculties counsel and motivate the weak students. We make a friendly and smart work environment. 


How do you bring a practical approach towards subjects as industry oriented in Dr.M.G.R Educational and Research Institute?

“Provide an integrated approach of theory cum practical with the latest equipped laboratories”

We identify the gap between the industry expectation and curriculum setup. Our campus has an integrated approach of theory cum practical with the latest equipped laboratories. We decide to impart a practical value addition towards the current trends of industry.


What are the best practices offered by the IT department for students to gain necessary skills? 

“Video based Learning , projects, and Internships are provided for pupils”

We give mini and major projects through project based learning. Video based Learning and Role play Activity are available for pupils. They get collaborative learning through internships and training. All these practices will be helpful to get employability skills among the students. 


How do you strategize the curriculum in Dr.M.G.R Educational and Research Institute for the students?

“Provide seminars, workshops, and value-added courses for students”

We identify curriculum gaps between industry and the content. Our faculties give seminars, workshops, and value added courses. We update the syllabus each year as per industry standards. 


How does the IT department prepare students for Higher education?

“Awareness programs, motivational programs and guidelines are provided to students”

We give awareness programs for those students about to get abroad admissions. Our faculties motivate and guide students to Clear GATE, CAT ,IELTS, etc. Students' interests are our priority.

We provide current trends of industries and scope of placements for students. They also get skill oriented training and Personality development programs for pupils. Students get motivational alumni sessions that are essential for success. 


Do you have any extracurricular activities to enhance the students skills in Dr.M.G.R Educational and Research Institute?

“NSS, NCC, Sports and Club activities are available for pupils”

Students get the skill of an engineer through NSS. The NCC improves their skill of Ethic, discipline and responsibility to serve the nation. We enrich Inter and Intrapersonal skills of pupils through club activities. Sports activities improve the skill of teamwork and Spirit to get success. 


What challenges do you face to uplift the education quality of the IT department? 

“To uplift the weaker students for placements and create 100% awareness on learning”

We face difficulty to uplift the weaker students to get a higher package of salary in their career. Another challenge is to create 100% awareness on Outcome based learning. We try to overcome these challenges through various methods. 


How does the IT department enhance the skills of the faculty as per industry standards? 

“Faculty Development Programs, Training Courses, and Research are provided to students”

Faculties get expertise on a course through Faculty Development Programs. They get experience of courses through training and get Soft Skill Certification to empower pupils. We give Publications, Funded Projects, Patents and Product development through research activities for faculties. 


What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to train the students in Dr.M.G.R Educational and Research Institute?

“Seminars, workshops and value-added courses are available for students”

We update content and deliver lectures through practical experiments. Students should work on Seminars, Workshops and value added courses. All these are helpful for them to start a new career.

Our campus's overall pass percentage above 95% for the past 2 years is a great strength. Other activities include good placements records, and qualified faculties. We motivate students to develop, and manage a business venture to make a profit through entrepreneurship development skills.
