We focus on in-house excellence in terms of academics and placement

We specialize in PGDM (2-year full time residential) program. We focus on in-house excellence in terms of academics and placement, which itself creates a Word of Mouth. Also, our alumni network is strong enough to create a position for us in the mind of prospective admissions. An entry in the exclusive Vidyalaxmi Scheme which allows students admitted in our institute to avail an educational loan up to 20 Lacs is enough to prove the credibility of our course. For infrastructure maintenance we have a strong team of experts who ensure hassle free living experience for both faculties and students in the campus.

The techniques and tools used have evolved over time and are now different and smarter

First of all, it keeps you updated on the courses we learnt as students, and what we teach today as professors are different. The techniques and tools used are different and smarter. So it always keeps you on the edge and forces you to unlearn obsolete things at the same time compels you to learn new things. This continuous challenge makes it the best stream to work.

I have been part of the corporate world as well in regular intervals and even have international consulting house experience, but yes academics has always been the place I want to be.

When I started working on the same it engrossed me with the interesting facets of research findings

When I enrolled for Ph.D., it was tough to handle a full time assignment as Head of an institution. Those days the first offer came in, to work for International Council of Metals and Minerals (ICMM). The assignment was being an independent researcher for a controversial mining project. When I started working on the same it engrossed me with the interesting facets of research findings and for days living in villages of tribal deprived of basic amenities like road, water, education, basic health care and electricity has shaken me. First time I came face to face with a different world which I never imagined existed. The findings were well appreciated and earned a goodwill which led to more research and consulting projects from big industrial houses. Then came another unique opportunity to work with the Government of Odisha in their unique, first of its kind initiative of Land rights to slum dwellers which was completely a different challenge which included capacity building along with research. The experience there led to an assignment with GIZ for sustainable development in the proposed smart cities project. So what keeps me going is the variety of challenges it brings to me as a researcher, whether I can skill up and match up to the required level. Now I am so used to it that I feel some vacuum if I am not into some research work. I have a great team of faculty members to work with so we keep working on some projects always.

We have experienced real life transformation of students which were unexpected and rewarding

This has been the best learning phase as far as academics are concerned for me. This process was a need, rather than a regular work. We were imparting Management education at district level where though the student was smart but lack of exposure led to poor communication skills. Now, different areas were having different kinds of challenges, so it was like developing an open source code platform which can be customized by the local trainer as per the need. Finally, we could do it and it was widely appreciated by the industry. We have experienced real life transformation of students which were unexpected, and it convinced us all working in the project as a team that nothing is impossible if you have the dedication for the goal.

A good leader should always be open to criticism and implement a transparent, coherent and empathetic system

If you want to be a leader the process of learning should never stop. You should have a good listening skill and an open mind. Sometimes the best learning comes from views which are completely contradictory to your thought process, provided you are open to it. A good leader should always be open to criticism and implement a transparent, coherent and empathetic system.

We make sure to develop and modify our curriculum which meets industry standards

The curriculum in KIAMS is reviewed frequently and adapts new tools and techniques in no time. The area chair of each stream is more alert than the students. Being a part of Kirloskar group brings in a unique advantage as our senior managers from industry even take full course loads at colleges. At Harihar we have senior industry professionals from Grasim, KFIL, TATA, JSW, KIA motors, and TKML (Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited) taking sessions. With them comes the practical learning from the industry which actually means the preacher himself is the teacher.

We need to understand there is no substitute of hard labour, rather the only substitute is harder labour

During the selection process this year, I have come across numerous students who were excellent in terms of communication and attitude but the subject knowledge and general awareness was too weak. This affects the critical thinking process which is vital for a career. We need to understand there is no substitute of hard labour, rather the only substitute is harder labour. Success comes with efforts; first you have to “Learn” and then remove the “L”. There is no shortcut to success and don’t get carried away by Jargons, stick to basics.
