Dr.(Mrs.) Madhura Joshi is the Trustee of the Institute of Science, Poona. She started her educational career with a Bachelor in Arts and also completed Masters in Computer Management. To pursue her love for education, she completed a Ph.D. in Computer Management. Her tireless efforts for Institutions brought prestigious NAAC accreditation. Recently, she has been awarded the Women’s Achiever’s Award for the year 2021 by the daily newspaper Lokamat. She has also been recognized as the “ कर्तृत्व कस्तुरी “ by the daily newspaper “ Pudhari “.

What has been the philosophy of leadership? 

“My major focus is building transparency and teamwork”

Proper communication with the team members is key to good leadership. I like to stay connected with them on trivial matters of the institution. I always take their inputs and opinions into account and accordingly make decisions. 

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector? 

“An innate passion towards education sector and continuing my family legacy”

My father-in-law Shri. Neelkanth Chintaman Joshi (M.Sc., M.A.) was a well-known educationist. He was a big inspiration for me and I want to continue his legacy. This is what keeps me connected to the education domain.

How do you plan the administration of your institute?

“Understanding the academic needs of the students to develop better policies”

My role is to identify the needs of students and develop an understanding of the operations. The Institute of Science, Poona runs various colleges in the field of computer science, education , management, arts and commerce. The long term goal is to improve the programs offered to the student and benefit society through the noble profession of teaching.

What has been your vision for the institute and its growth?

“To achieve a high standard in the field of value-based education”

I began my association with the institute in 2016. Finding and recognizing educational needs and satisfying them with services of international standards is the main vision. I want to build educational structure and policies which are at par with the global standards. We also want to provide equal opportunities to students from the weaker socio-economic sections of society. 

How does the curriculum of the institute ensure the best practice of industry?

“Experiential learning is the basis of developing a dynamic curriculum”

We focus on imparting practical knowledge along with theoretical learning. We conduct various seminars, guest lectures and industry visits to increase practical learning. It helps students to understand the latest trends in different industries. 

Any suggestions you would like to give to the aspiring students?

“Possess the ability to identify your passion and set goals accordingly”

We are a medium to enable the student to mindfully use their education and knowledge to be more aware of themselves. My advice to students is that they should be able to differentiate themselves from others, in a healthy manner. It is important to stay on top of current trends, especially the technological aspects.

What would you like people to know about your institute they may not know?

“We provide equal opportunity to students especially from rural regions”

The Institute of Science, Poona was established in 1956 to propagate scientific attitudes amongst the younger generation. We have an established legacy and have seen changes in the education sector across generations. Trustee's and staff's constant efforts have helped to get NAAC accreditation which has given the institute a lot of credibility. I want people to know that we want to bridge the education gap that is present currently in India.

Do you have any extracurricular activities to enhance the skills of the students?

“The institute focuses on research activities and grooming sessions for students benefits”

We enable the students to participate in the various extracurricular activities. We also help them to publish their research in top journals, as a part of experiential learning. We want students to enter the corporate world with full confidence. Thus there is a focus on preparing the students to be ready for industry.
