GITAM HBS: Feel the ‘Joy of Giving’

“Management students should especially feel the ‘joy of giving’ and not just celebrate charity activities”, said Prof. Y. Lakshman Kumar, Dean & Director, GITAM Hyderabad Business School. He addressed the students of MBA who were celebrating the annual event of “Joy of Giving”, by bringing orphan children from a city-based orphanage to GITAM campus and providing a good time to them.

Prof. Lakshman Kumar narrated his personal experiences of providing help and getting the help, while he was in the needy position. Sri D.V.V.S.R. Varma, Resident Director, GITAM University, Hyderabad Campus, said the children deserved a good time on the campus and should feel that the experience was worth their long travel. He has been witness to this annual event for the past decade and always felt happy and inspired about the spirit of the MBA students.

Sri Murthy, Hostel Manager, ‘T springs house’, who participated in the event as a Guest of Honor, remarked that due to the benevolent nature of our tradition we never had orphans in the past. It is only when we forgot our traditional values, our society starting producing orphans. He was happy that the students of HBS were reviving the noble tradition of giving and spreading the joy of it.

The first year and second-year students of MBA raised funds and provided the children of T springs house with sports kits and monetary donation. They conducted competitions in outdoor games and cultural activities for the children and gave away prizes. GITAM officials handed over a modest donation to the orphanage to the manager on behalf of GITAM University.

International Conference at GITAM HBS

GITAM Hyderabad Business School (GHBS), under academic cooperation with the faculty of EGADE Business School, Mexico City, is conducting a two-day international conference on ‘Transformative Consumerism and Sustainability: The Emerging Global Business Scenarios’ on November 15 and 16, 2019 on its campus.

The conference will provide an interdisciplinary forum on sustainable development and transformative consumption for practitioners and academics. Researchers from around the world are exploring the purpose of advancing consumer well-being alongside global sustainability concerns. This conference broadly contributes to this new school of thought.

The B-school is inviting faculty, research scholars, executives of government and non-governmental organizations, sustainability activists, corporate engaged in the sustainability programs and public policy experts to participate in this event.
