The fourth chapter of International Symposium on Economic Development, an illustrious annual conference that attracts the world’s leading researchers, economists, and students was organized at FIIB, New Delhi on August 4, 2018 in collaboration with Uniglobe College, Kathmandu, Nepal.

Inaugural Session:

The conference started with the lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana followed by welcome address by Dr. Anil Sinha, Director at FIIB. Setting out the theme on “Impact of Globalization and Policy Decisions”,  Dr. Amiya Mohapatra, Faculty and Symposium chair spoke about the role of globalization on country’s economy and how developed countries want to invest in developing countries, after which Dr. Ramnath Srinath, Professor, Assumption University, Thailand delivered a special address on how globalization has made the world a better place to live, he also spoke about some cons mentioning, “globalization is not working for many countries; rich are becoming richer, and the poor are becoming poorer as developed countries take advantage of the workforce of developing countries.” The Keynote speaker, Dr. T.K. Jayaraman, Professor, University of Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia shared his deliberations on trade and currency war, growth projections of 2018 and 19 by IMF. Then, the chief guest Dr. Shyam S Lodha, Professor, Southern Connecticut University, USA enlightened the audience about how globalization is inherently dis-equalizing and how certain economic factors indicate deglobalization is the way to go. The inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Asheesh Pandey, Faculty at FIIB. He quoted, “In academics, you either publish or you perish.”

Panel Discussion:

Panel discussion started with Dr. Sudhir Rana, Faculty at FIIB addressing the panel. Mr. Charudutta Panigrahi, Panel Co-Chair & Moderator, Founder Mentor-FIDR, New Delhi, Dr Rajiv R. Thakur, Professor, BIMTECH, Greater Noida, Dr. Sandeep Goel, Associate Professor, MDI, Gurugram, Mr. Rajeev Ranjan Roy, Senior Journalist, Daily Post, Chandigarh, Punjab, deliberated about trade policies, currency war, income disparities, reverse globalization. The discussion involved various topics on economic development and the competition between efficiency and deficiency.

After the discussion, amongst the speakers, researchers, and students, the book “Advances of Business and Management” authored by Dr. Amiya Mohapatra and Prof. Shyam S Lodha was unveiled.

Post lunch, 2 technical sessions namely on Finance and Economics, and Economics and Public Policy were held in which 25 papers were presented by researchers across the nation. The session chairs included key researchers like Dr. Amit Kumar Singh, Associate Professor, Dept. of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University, Delhi and Dr. Surender Mor, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, BPS Women University, Sonepat, Haryana.

The symposium ended with a valedictory session where Dr. Anil Sinha, Director, FIIB shared the symposium outcomes with everyone. The valedictory address was delivered by Dr. Prashanta Kumar Dash, Sr. DGM, Procurement & Contracts, L &T, Construction, Delhi Cluster.  The event was a huge success attended by 250+ participants networking with the best of the academics and research circle.
