New Delhi: FIIB hosted the HR Conclave on 1st December’17 with the theme “Communication: Voice of an Organization.” As its theme suggests, the conclave highlighted significance and benefits of effective communication for an organization along with its relevance for various communities. Organized by the Cynergy Club at FIIB campus, the event had the honour to be addressed by two notable speakers and four distinguished panellists.

The entire gamut of events began with a welcome note by Dr. Anil Sinha, director at Fortune Institute of International Business, who spoke about the efficiency of HR Club, the future of communication in the era of artificial intelligence and recent developments in the scope of communication.

Mr. Alok Narain, Executive Vice President- HR, Quatrro Global Service

This was followed by an enlightening keynote address by Mr. Alok Narain, Executive Vice President- HR, Quatrro Global Services. With a career spanning more than 25 years spread across hospitality, telecom and engineering industries, he is a staunch believer in the power of technology and automation. He shared knowledgeable insights about the role of communication in the big data industry and transformation in the field of communication as manual roles move toward redundancy in the era of digitalization. He also laid emphasis on the impact of communication on employee productivity, suitable strategies and explained how it is the backbone of any organization.

Ms. Rita Gangwani, Personality Development Mentor

Ms. Rita Gangwani, the plenary speaker then took the stage. She is a Personality Development Mentor, widely recognized as a dynamic entrepreneur who teaches people the art of leading extraordinary lives, and has an experience of over 29 years as a trainer at prestigious corporations including fortune 500 companies. For all the splendid work that she’s done, she has been honoured with several awards like- Lord Beden Powell President Award, Women of the Year, Mahilla Gaurav Samman, Rajdhani Rattan and the list goes on. She shared her views on the classroom ways of communication, the importance of effective communication that flows from the top of an organization to the bottom-most levels, and the role of being culturally sensitive. It was an absolute delight to learn about how impressions and body language can make all the difference, how it can take a few seconds to create or ruin an impression and how thoughts should translate into actions. The personality and grooming tips that she shared with the audience are going to be cherished till eternity.

These phenomenal speeches were then followed by panel discussions. There were two-panel discussions- one with the students, which was moderated by Prof. Tushar Banerjee, HR & Marketing faculty at FIIB and the other panel discussion was with four renowned panellists, moderated by Dr. Sangeeta Chopra, HR faculty at FIIB. Here is a brief snapshot of the panellists’ profiles-

  • Mr. Iqbal Sachdeva- A journalist, public relation specialist, corporate trainer, cartoonist and an author, he has worked across multiple fields like communication, public relation, advertising, sales and marketing. He has three decades of experience with Goodyear Tire and Rubber and has authored a well-known book “Public Relations,” published by Oxford University Press in 2009.
  • Mr. Ajay Bhatia- An accomplished HR professional with over 27 years of experience in Public & Private sector companies across a diverse spectrum of industries like banking, aviation, steel, IT and ITES. He has successfully executed myriad of leadership roles at the local and global level as a generalist, specialist, business partner, consultant and a coach. He also has a consistent track record of conceptualizing and executing people strategies to accomplish key organizational goals.
  • Mr. Prem Goswami- Vice President of HR at R Systems International Ltd., he handles the whole gambit of HR Operations. He has successfully implemented the competency framework across the Company and has conceptualized and implemented people practices compliant with PCMM framework. Additionally, he is responsible for the implementation of Process Performance Model across the organization, policy formulations and process improvement.
  • Mr. Paramjit Lamba- AVP-HR for Orient Craft Ltd., one of the biggest approval manufacturers and export houses in India today. He has done specialized courses in Performance Management from IIM-A, Work Study from NITIE, Competency Mapping from XLRI Jamshedpur and is Certified Administrator of 16PF, MBTI and Thomas Profiling Psychometric Assessments. Working across IT, Hospitality, NGO, Warehousing, Retail and Manufacturing sectors over the past 18 years, has provided him a hands-on experience in international HR practices. Furthermore, he is a published author of several books ranging across Industrial Relations & Labour Laws, Marketing, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Project Planning, Warehousing & Retail.

The panel discussion encapsulated various topics emphasizing the importance of communication like Mr. Iqbal spoke about the difference between a good and a great organization, and between PR & HR. He also gave some incredibly valuable suggestions for developing great communication skills. The discussion was informative, enlightening and industry relevant. It also included how communication forms an indispensable part of every HR process, be it the recruitment process or internal communication strategies, even though it works as an invisible force.

“The entire experience was very pleasant and enjoyable. The students at FIIB are extremely bright and forward-looking, which made the conclave what it was. The discipline and focus with which the students had organized this entire event, and the professional code of conduct followed by them are clear indicators of their industry readiness,” shared Mr. Iqbal Sachdeva.

The topic of communication is crucial in every setting, be it personal or professional, and touches everyone in an organization from the CEO to an intern.
