Jai Bharath Arts and Science College

You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Teaching is a noble profession and I am proud to be part of that to make my mark and be a change in society by imparting quality education to the budding minds of our society”

Right from the beginning of my career around a few decades back as a lecturer, education, and academics have been an integral part of my life. The joy of teaching and enabling education through different ways in my institution, and enforcing quality academic sessions via my teaching staff has been the major factor that makes me stay connected to the education sector. Application of educational and extracurricular talents, information literacy, talent application of tutors, allowing equal education access, education system monitoring, and productivity learning apparatus in the college are all binding factors for my relationship with my educational institutes.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“I keep a democratic approach rather than a totalitarian one where the opinions of all stakeholders are taken before any decision-making process so that it aligns with what is expected of college leadership“

Being the head of my educational institution, my leadership skill is for the betterment of student academics primarily with an emphasis on the betterment of my institution at the helm, to properly align my staff and students with that vision. Constant strive to inspire all and to make these plans materialize, by giving directions of corrective measures in teaching, learning, discipline, and assessment processes, even if the dynamics change leading to unexpected obstacles.

What are some plans that you are currently (or will be) designing for students?

“Giving quality industry-related courses along with University curriculum to make students capable and be ready to face the academic and non-academic challenges that may come their way”

The primary aim of any institution should be helping students find their purpose- both academically as well as non-academically and Jai Bharath with its unique design of curriculum as approved by the University is trying to achieve that. Teaching what is required in the syllabus may not be enough for achieving full growth as students. That’s why we are including add-on courses especially in Commerce, Science, and Computer streams, where the students are given industry-linked training. For this, we are bringing in experts from the industry as well as organizing seminars and workshops for getting maximum exposure for the students in their required fields. Also, along with the elected class representatives and the student’s Union, the college is trying to explore the talents of students in arts and related fests.

For this, proper identification of talents is done using micro-festivals that are planned as part of Artfest conducted annually in the college. Training programs are intended for the selected students so that they can participate in the University Arts Festival too.

How does the department/college enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to industry standards?

“Management-sponsored FDPs are planned to be regularly organized for our faculty members”

Our college is striving to have a good faculty retention rate by retaining the best staff and a plan is made to impart the best training programs to all faculty members periodically. We are on our way to having more Ph.D. holders as faculty members in all streams. The college is collecting feedback from students to assess their satisfaction level of students, thus trying to improve and recommend spaces for improvement.

What valuable advice would you like to give the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

“Student’s wholehearted participation in academic and non-academic programs with an open-minded approach is the need of the hour”

To have a flying career after studies, there is a gate to be passed first, which is a call letter for the interview. For that, the students have to remember that grades really count. High grades really imply intelligence and dedication to the work that was given to them- which was studies. The prospective employer will definitely see potential in that.

Whether it is academics or career, they need to set high academic, personal, and even time management standards for themselves, and live up to them. Having high leadership qualities and self-belief are vital in this competitive world to survive. School is not just for fun, but it's serious work where the rewards will bear fruit after a student’s constant strive for a few years, where the student has to increase their depth of understanding.

Finally, be courteous and kind and get to know all members of the campus, whether they might be the office workers, faculties, lab attendants, and cleaners even. Try to understand that all these people are working for the students to become successful in life.

Meet with the student’s class in-charges and all teachers regularly outside class hours too for valuable and timely advice and bridge-on.

Last, but not least, don’t put off any academic-related activity until tomorrow, that can be done today. This is in direct correlation to the attitude of a student to take responsibility for themselves and take the right path in their lives.
