Prof.Rajendra Bhombe has obtained his degree in BE in Electrical Engineering from Nagpur University in 1995 and M.Tech in Integrated Power Systems from Nagpur University in 2012. He has a total experience of 25 years which includes the academic experience of 23 years and Industrial experience of 2 years. He was working in Archana Transformers, Nagpur, as a Sales Engineer from 1995 to 1997. He worked in Amrutvahini Polytechnic, Sangamner as a Lecturer in the Electrical Department from 1998 to 2007. He has been working at Guru Nanak Institute of Engineering and Technology, Nagpur since 2007 till date as HoD in Electrical Engineering Department and Vice-Principal, Guru Nanak Institute of Engineering and Technology, Nagpur. He has handled various portfolios as ARC officer, OIC for RTMNU examination, Facilitation Centre Incharge, Admission Incharge, Expert for recruitment of Teaching Faculty, Moderator and Paper setter in RTMNU examination. His areas of interest are Electrical Distribution System, Electrical Machines –II, Electrical Power System and Computer Applications in Power System.He has published over 30 research papers at National and International conferences.He has over 15 International Journal Publications. He is a lifetime member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).

You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

I had held various positions like Vice -Principal , Head of the Department, Member of Board of studies, Officer-in-charge RTMNU Examinations, Admission Incharge,etc. The key factors that keep me connected with education sector include

  •  Interactions with eminent personalities in the education sector whose suggestions and advice help me in improving my department in particular and institute in general.
  • General awareness about recent trends in education sectors in order to work for improvement and progress of the department is achieved by attending workshops and meetings of eminent personalities in the education sector.

In today’s time most of the students are opting for circuit branches, in your opinion what are the opportunities to look for in the core branches? 

Core branches offer numerous opportunities in their sectors.e.g. In the Electrical Engineering branch, job opportunities in power generation, transmission and distribution companies with a vast number of posts will always be there so long as power utilization is there.

Being the Head of the Department at EE GNIET, Nagpur what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

  • To guide the students for career opportunities.
  • To encourage research/innovative programs in the department.
  • To organize need based workshops/seminars/symposia/visits/excursions etc.
  • Invite guest speakers for interaction and guidance to UG/PG students.
  • To motivate students for a successful career and inculcate discipline, manners and good habits in them so as to make them good citizens of the country.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards the subject and make it more industry oriented?

More emphasis will be on delivering practical knowledge as compared to theory-based knowledge. Students should be given demonstrations. More activities, experimentations and industrial exposures through industrial visits and industrial projects.


What are the extracurricular activities/Programs organized to enhance the skills of the students and expose them to real-world challenges?

  • In order to enhance the skills of the students and to provide a platform to them to showcase their talents, Project and poster competitions are organized.
  • To develop team spirit among them. Forum activities, sports, and events like Dahi-handi are organized.
  • Programs like Shiv-Jayanti celebrations, Navratri Garba create spirit of brotherhood and respect for our culture which is essential for the new generation.

What are the challenges you faced/or are facing to uplift the quality of education in your department?

Most of the students admitted are working professionals and are unable to attend regular classes. This may affect their result and the overall result of the subjects. Due to students not attending classes, the total attendance of students is less which hampers activities like workshops, seminars, industrial visits, and extra-curricular activities conducted for the students. Also, sometimes the faculties in the department do not remain constant.


How do you promote research and innovation in your department?

By motivating faculty towards Research Proposals to various research funding agencies such as AICTE, DST, DRDO, etc. And encourage research/innovative programs in the department.

How does the department enhance the skills of faculty and prepare them according to industry standards?

  • By Initiating and co-ordinating signing of MoUs with other institutions, industries and corporate houses.
  • By providing Industrial training and conducting Industrial visits for faculties.
  • By making it mandatory for faculties to guide the students for industry tie up based projects.
  • By organizing Industrial knowledge based seminars and workshops for the faculties.

What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to train/teach the students?

  • Organising workshops/seminars/ symposia/Industrial visits/excursions etc. for the students.
  • Conducting Extra-curricular, sports, cultural and forum activities for the students.

What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

"I would like to give advice to the students that there is no shortcut to success"

Hard Work, honesty and perseverance along with smart work will definitely lead to a successful carrier. Students should try to become a good human being first.
