Dr. Vinay Singhal is the Principal at Gateway Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sonepat, Haryana. He is a graduate (B.Tech.) in Instrumentation and Control Engineering and has worked as a control engineer for 1 year in the industry. He has completed his Post Graduation (M.Tech.) in Electronics and Communication Engineering and Ph.D. in Electronics and Communication Engineering with a total teaching experience of 12 years. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Ability to work with the youth having a different mindset, approach and perspective”

I am passionate about teaching and research. That is why I have been associated with the education sector from the beginning of my professional career. There are several key factors that keep me motivated. I must always keep abreast of the latest trends, technologies, and industry requirements as technology is evolving at an incredibly rapid pace. In this profession, it is always interesting to get to know and work with youth with diverse mindsets, approaches, and perspectives.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

“My preferred style of leadership is the democratic style”

Leaders are those who are at the service of their teams, motivating them, encouraging them, appreciating and empowering them. They should also be responsible for their actions. In most cases, I am a proponent of democratic leadership. 

How do you plan the marketing of your school?

"By empowering students with the knowledge and building them as the institute's brand ambassadors"

At Gateway, our motto is to provide quality and affordable education and keeping the same in mind we create student-centric policies. I believe students are the brand ambassadors of any institute and if they are happy and satisfied with the institution then they themselves will promote the institute.

What can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

"Practical training always takes precedence over theoretical training”

We place more emphasis on theoretical knowledge than practical skills in our higher education system. Students are deprived of free-thinking, creativity, and practical skills under these circumstances, which I consider to be a major drawback. At Gateway, however, we emphasize practical learning over theoretical learning. In addition, students are required to participate in a variety of activities of their interest for their holistic development.

Being the principal of the institution, I am responsible for all academic and non-academic operations. The aim is to achieve institutional goals. I take this responsibility to provide the best quality education to all the students and fulfill their requirements in their academic journey.

How do you tend to establish a healthy environment in your institute?

“Enabling positive classroom experiences with interaction and engagement”

Students' relationships with teachers have a long-term impact on their academic and social development. For their comprehensive development, classroom learning is very important. Students need to feel a sense of belonging to their classes, faculties, institutes, societies, and countries. Because of this, classroom teaching should have the ability to excite, engage, and influence students to feel responsible for society and their country. It is important for students to educate themselves on how to treat other students with respect and dignity. It is obvious that a healthy environment will result from such connections.
