- B.Sc: 10 + 2 or its equivalent is mandatory with 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology studied together.
- M.Sc. Microbiology/ Biotechnology: Graduation in any discipline of Biological Sciences, Engineering in Biotechnology, Medicine or equivalent with a background in Biology. The basic eligibility criteria are 60% in bachelor's degree.
- M.Sc. Bioinformatics: Graduation in any discipline of science including Maths, Engineering or Medicine. A background in Maths or Computer Science is preferred. The basic eligibility criteria are 60% in bachelor's degree.
- PhD Biotechnology: Master’s in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computational Neuroscience or any branch of Biological Sciences with 60%.

- Firstly the applicants are shortlisted on the basis of their performance in the AMBEE entrance exam.
