New Delhi: Allahabad University has released a new Pre-PhD course. As per the new guidelines, all researchers at the university will now be required to complete this six month long Pre-PhD course.
This compulsion to do this Pre-PhD course is applicable to the researchers in the affiliated colleges of Allahabad University as well. The curriculum is to be introduced by the faculty including Arts, Commerce, Science and Law. There is also planning of introducing faculty-specific classes as well as exams.
The university is waiting to receive the Academic Council’s approval of the proposed syllabus. As per a report by “Live Hindustan”, once it receives the approval, the syllabus will be implemented successfully.
Allahabad University Pre-PhD Course: Significance
In general, M.Phil courses act as a precursor to PhD courses which tend to prepare the researchers for upcoming researchers, provide knowledge of methodology and so on. However, recently, NEP allowed the college students to pursue a PhD right after a Master’s degree or a four-year Bachelor’s degree programme. Since the Government has discontinued M.Phil degree, the newly launched Pre-PhD courses can fulfil that responsibility.
On the other hand, NEP has suggested that institutes can also offer a two-year Master’s programme where the second year will be dedicated to research for those who have already completed a three-year Bachelor’s programme. Otherwise, institutes can also offer an integrated five-year Bachelor’s and Master’s programme.
Problematically, a section of academicians has opposed this move claiming that it would lessen the quality of research in the country.
Allahabad University Pre-PhD Course: Application Details
The application process for admission to this Pre-PhD course will begin for the next academic session 2022-23. The admission will start at the end of May, 2022. An agency is to handle the online application process. The tender for selection of the agency was released 21 days ago. The process of technical as well as financial bidding will be completed by Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Then the agency will be selected.
In the meantime, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sangita Srivastava, shared her thoughts on the proper dress code during a meeting conducted specifically to discuss the dress code for the newly recruited staff members. It was co-organised by the Centre of Fashion Design and Technology and Textile and Apparel Designing. During the meeting, Professor Srivastava, stressed on the value of smart working attire and the necessity of personal grooming.
