All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is preparing to introduce a model curriculum in line with the National Education Policy, NEP 2020, said officials on Wednesday, January 05, 2022.
As per the statement made by senior officials of AICTE, the first version of the model curriculum was earlier introduced in 2017, even before the launch of NEP 2020. AICTE model curriculum is prepared by both academic and industry experts for different disciplines of Undergraduate
Degree courses in Engineering and Technology and made available for Universities and Institutions. Now, with further revisions in the curriculum, the new model will be released in the next fortnight.
Adding to the statement, AICTE Chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe said, "Modern curriculum comes into force from time to time. The first version of the model curriculum was implemented way back in 2017".
"Now, it's already four years and the curriculum has again been revised. You will have the next model curriculum any time soon, maybe in the next fortnight also" he added. The statement was made during a panel discussion at the International Conference of Academic Institutions.
The two-day International Conference of Academic Institutions was organised at Vigyan Bhavan, Science City, Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Wednesday, January 05, 2022. The event was held with a focus on the implementation of National Education Policy 2020.
The event included a panel discussion on “Multidisciplinary and Holistic Education” which was held in the presence of AICTE Chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe.
During the discussion session, the academician said, “This is still called a model curriculum. Since it comes from a regulatory body, people assume that this is mandatory. Universities can make changes in the curriculum because what we have prepared is a suggestive model”.
Earlier, in a statement made by President Ram Nath Kovind, he said that “NEP 2020 Will Nurture Young Talent”. He stated that the well-planned roadmap of NEP will help in promoting education in India and will create an environment where young minds can gain knowledge.
In another statement made by the Education Minister during the Techspectations EDUCATE Summit 2021, he added that "NEP Will Build ‘Aspirational New India". The summit hosted by JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University) was held on October 23, 2021.
The NEP 2022 will not only provide freedom to students in choosing the field of their choice but will also provide them with an option to leave the program in between with the help of credit scores, the statement further added.
