Musicology researches and conveys the processes of formation, functions, tradition and meanings of music; Cross-disciplinary topics and methods from cultural and social sciences to digital humanities play an important role. The subject of musicology enables students to scientifically deal with music in its entire range, including music history and aesthetics, digital music edition and analysis as well as questions about the cultural and social significance of music, the history of composition, gender or pop. The Detmold / Paderborn musicology seminar offers a variety of master's courses, which allows students to tailor their studies to suit their interests.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
The study of musicology requires a degree in musicology from the University of Paderborn's two-subject Bachelor's degree or a comparable university degree with a professional qualification with a standard period of study of at least six semesters at the University of Paderborn or a state or state-recognized university or a state or state-recognized vocational academy. The degree must include the following competencies:
- Know and apply basic specialist knowledge of music history and cultural contextualization of music
- Know and apply basic specialist knowledge of typesetting and musical analysis.
- Methodological skills related to musicological work and research.
