Ans. One of my friends studied at NIT Goa. According to him, In the recent placement drive of 2021, the students of NIT Goa were offered the highest packages compared to the placement drives of the previous years.  One of the students who completed the M.Tech course got a package that offered INR 14.3 LPA.  The companies that have made offers to the students this year are Siemens, Goldman Sachs, TCS, Samsung, Mphasis, Samsung, etc. In the department of CSE, out of the 27 eligible students, all 27 of them got placed, making their placement program a complete success.  Over 45 companies have visited NIT Goa in 2021 so far; surpassing the tally of the previous three years. If we talk about facilities, the labs have computers that are high end and run on Linux and Windows operating systems.  The internet connection provided, leaves no room for complaints. The campus is wifi enabled too. The faculty is helpful and cooperative. Ans. IITs offer better placements for MTech in Computer Science. ISI Kolkata offers fewer core Computer Science job profiles. Most opportunities offered at the institute are for M.Stat and MSQE students. But if you want a career as a Data Scientist, it will be a better choice. ISI Kolkata placements are the best in the country for analytics. However, the recruiting companies usually prefer M.Stat/MSQE students over M.Tech.  According to the recent placement highlights M.Tech CS students of ISI usually receive a median CTC of around INR 18.6 LPA.  In terms of research too, join ISI Kolkata, if you want to work on something related to analytics or big data, etc. If you want a traditional career path in CS, then IITs will be better. Read more

Ans. One of my friends is an alumnus of ISI Kolkata and here is his insight into the placements for MTech CS.  The job profiles offered by ISI are mostly from Data Analytics. You will not get many CS core jobs from the placement drive. Don’t expect companies such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc.  As an M.Tech(CS) student, you will have a fair knowledge about IR, Pattern Recognition, Data Mining and you can easily get jobs at these visiting companies.  In the recent placement drive, the highest package offered was INR 25 to 28 LPA while the average was INR 10 to 12 LPA. ISI offers good job opportunities, but it is limited to a particular domain. Along with Data Analytics companies, few R&D centers like TCS Innovation, Infosys R&D, visit the placement drive.  Other than that you can apply for summer internships and if you perform well you will receive PPOs. But if you are expecting a job strictly related to your field after the compilation of your masters then don’t choose ISI. So, in the first year, ISI encourages students from non-CSE backgrounds to learn coding and study computer science courses. While CSE students are encouraged to take Mathematics courses such as Algebra, or Probability.  Second year course curriculum can seem a little boring for students with CS background. As the major chunk of the curriculum includes Algorithms, Networking, DBMS, etc. But you should use this opportunity to brush up on these subjects. You will also have the option to do research work, during the course tenure. Pursuing a research project can be really helpful if you are interested in doing a Ph.D. or an internship afterward.  In the second year, you will be allowed to choose a course of your choice. Try to take a subject that is relevant to your thesis work. Ans. The difficulty level of M.Tech CS examination in ISI Kolkata is slightly less than GATE. It’s will be easier to crack, if you are good at Mathematics. If you have a strong command of topics like linear algebra, discrete mathematics, probability, and analysis, scoring well in the examination won’t be difficult.  The test includes two papers i.e. MMA and PCB. The MMA paper will have MCQs on Mathematics. The PCB paper is subjective. PCB section A will have Mathematics questions. The rest of the questions will be from a subject of your choosing, i.e. Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering & Technology. Ans. Have known some people who have pursued M.Tech in CSE from NIT Kurukshetra, NIT Bhopal, and IIIT Allahabad. I can say that you can opt for IIIT Allahabad for CSE. Do not choose NIT Kurukshetra. At NIT Kurukshetra the examination cell is not good and placements are average. IIIT Allahabad is better in terms of placements, faculty, exposure, etc. At IIIT Allahabad, top companies like Infosys, Capgemini, Byju’s, Oracle, JP Morgan, TCS, IBM, Amazon, Jaro Education, etc. take part in their placement program. They also have an active coding culture.
