Campus Life

The university offers a large number of opportunities for student involvement at all its campuses, including student and professional associations, service organizations, performing ensembles, student publications, student government, and intramural and club athletics. Kent State offers several student government options, the largest of which is the Undergraduate Student Government (USG), which represents students from all campuses of the university and has been in some form of operation since 1924. Kent State operates twenty-five on-campus residence halls, all of which are located on the main campus in Kent. Each hall is a part of a larger group, usually bound by a common name or a common central area. Kent State's athletic teams are called the Golden Flashes and the school colors are shades of navy blue and gold, officially "Kent State blue" and "Kent State gold".

There's more to university life than going to class, studying at the library, excelling at a project, or acing tests. Students must also enjoy coffee meet-ups, art exhibits, theatre shows, finding the best pizza on campus, or joining in on a game with the “Mean Green Dodgeball Club” at the University of North Texas. The possibilities to learn interesting new things are as limitless as a student’s potential at UNT.

To help students relish their lives on campus, UNT offers many facilities. For example, the university has more than five hundred student organisations, counting 40+ societies/ alliances and 100+ academic honour societies. In addition, the campus has a bright student body comprising 32 new National Merit Finalists, 89 Terry Scholars, and 1,700 Honors College students. Its other initiatives to help students experience an impressive and comfortable stay are:

  • Involvement Advertising: Involvement Advising is an opportunity for the students to meet (either in-person or virtually) with a Campus Life Ambassador (CLA) to learn about their interests and steps to getting involved on campus. UTL’s CLAs, who are students themselves, advise the new students on how to get involved in the 450+ student organisations and other co-curricular opportunities.
  • UPC Virtual Programs and Activities: With this service, the students can attend various events like Nightime Tunes, Starwar Bingo, Upcinema: Ponyo, Sitcom Trivia, etc.
  • Virtual Fraternity and Sorority Life Meetings

City Life

Canterbury city’s medieval history is easy to see in its streets and buildings, along the River Stour and in the world-famous Canterbury Cathedral.
The Cathedral, St Augustine’s Abbey and St Martin’s church, the oldest church in the country, make up a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  With a population of almost 40,000 students, the city remains a centre of history, culture and learning. Canterbury’s Whitefriars shopping centre brings you the best in fashion, beauty and lifestyle from some of the biggest names in retail. Just a short walk away, the independent shops and boutiques in the King’s Mile, Westgate and St Dunstan’s sell fine art, jewellery, clothing, crafts, antiques and more. The city has plenty to offer those looking for a good night out. Clubs include Steinbeck & Shaw, a unique venue blending a bar and nightclub experience, and Club Chemistry, the city’s biggest nightclub playing old-school classics, hip hop and dance music. The county of Kent is home to a number of professional sports teams, and if you want to get involved there are first-class facilities for all levels and abilities to use. Kent's 350-mile coastline is one of the longest and most diverse in the country. During the second and third years at Kent, many students live in the seaside towns of Whitstable and Herne Bay, or the market town of Faversham. These are all on local bus routes to Canterbury and have direct rail links to London.
