Andrea Dumitru Review at University Of Calgary [UCALGARY], Calgary | Collegedunia

Andrea's University review

7.5 /10

Firstly, I choose this university because it's located where I currently live. I couldn't afford to go to another province or even city so I just opted for the cheapest option. However, turns out the school has a great mechanical engineering program and has had a lot of success thus far in my degree.

Course Curriculum :

I find it very difficult and stressful at times. I do like the material a lot, however, usually the people who teach it don't care about teaching and end up giving me a negative opinion on the courses. The main issue is not the curriculum but the professors.

Exams :

Alberta diploma. I didn't have to take any tests to get into the university. I just had to have got a high school diploma and have a good overall average.

Placement :

Most kids end up getting an internship during their degree. However, postgrad opportunities are more scared and fewer people get them. The internship experience helps somewhat, but in general, there are way more internship positions.

Internship :

Yes. I am currently on an internship right now and have enjoyed it a lot. The university really pushes students to get internships and provides a lot of guidance. The internship has been a valuable time for me as I learned what it is like to work in a professional environment and deal with real-world problems.

Fees :

Each class has its own charge. On top of that, there are other surcharges like gym membership and insurance. Usually, these can be opted out of but there are a number of fees that can't be opted out of.

Scholarship :

Yes. It was a tedious process of writing many essays and getting a lot of recommendation letters for scholarships. As for financial aid, it was more straight forward. I just had to fill out a form every year and I get approved for the money right away

Examination Structure :

Exams are typically written and/or multiple choice. Usually, the multiple choice portions will be more straight forward questions with one answer. The written answer questions require more in-depth analysis and thinking.

Faculty :

Overall I enjoy it. As I mentioned before I wish they put more of an emphasis and training professors to teach properly. Most of them are at the university for research purposes and are made to teach without wanting to. Encouraging a desire for teaching would help students a lot
