Daniel Gonzalez Garcia Review at Humber College, Toronto | Collegedunia

Humber is the best college in the area.

The college has a well-known hospitality and tourism management program and this has been my passion since I can remember. The tuition of Humber was also recently priced compared to its competitors and they had an easy to access campus by transit.

Course Curriculum :

The course curriculum is overall very good. There is a strong emphasis on the knowledge and thought that is required to be a manager in this industry. One thing that I would improve on it is the focus on lodging operations finances and the emphasis on food and beverage. I think both of these things are crucial to a successful manager.

Placement :

There are many resources available to us as students to help us find placement opportunities. We can speak with our career advisors as well as search the job board. Humber also provides workshops and presentations often that we can attend for extra insight and connections.

Internship :

They provide help in order to find your mandatory internship. The resources available to you are quite good. They offer a career advisory team and an internal posting board where only students can access and see positions from around the area.

Events :

My college student government is very involved with the students and the school overall. They often run movie nights and open Mic nights as well as gaming tournaments and animal days. It always seems that there is something going on in my school.

Fees :

I was charged a $500 deposit a couple of months before the semester to secure my spot and pick the courses of my choice, this deposit reduced my total when I paid the full amount. When I paid the full amount I was charged for the tuition, student fees(govt, health insurance etc.), co-op fees, and a few more I can't remember. It comes out to around $4000 per semester.

Scholarship :

I received financial aid in my first year in the form of a grant of $3500 dollars and a loan of the same amount. I also received a first-year entrance scholarship of $1500 dollars because of my high school average.

Examination Structure :

Exams are taken very seriously at Humber. Academic Integrity is a top priority and there is always great care taken to prevent cheating. Exams are done at the same time and place as your class most of the time and will have a professor and a second person often for supervision purposes. Also, professors will often create different versions of their exams so that students can not copy from each other.

Faculty :

The college faculty is overall extremely helpful. The majority of them are industry professionals and seem to take genuine care in the success of their students. I have personally interacted with my program coordinator, Ramesh Srinivasan, many times and he is a major reason for my success in this program.
