The reason why I wanted to go to Dalhousie was for the following reasons: Because it was by the ocean, interesting program, far from home, small school, small city, possible opportunity to grow - family heritage.
Course Curriculum :
I think that within computer science at Dal they are starting to revamp the first and second-year courses by talking to alumni and ask them what they do in their jobs and what the current students should learn. I talked to different companies to ask what they would want out of a dal computer science student.
Exams :
I just needed to have certain grades for certain high school classes to get into university. In my university program, I find I have to take a form of the exam(s) for each course(s) each semester.
Placement :
I think they are all very interesting and exciting! Most of my friends within co-op get a job with one of the companies they worked for. By doing this program you can also travel and explore. I had a peer work at Google in California and another peer work over in Holland.
Internship :
Yes, within computer science we have a co-op program which means you work for 3 terms (4 months for each) at jobs within your field. These are also paired jobs that students usually use to help pay for school or rent. I found by doing this that I wanted to go into teaching.
Fees :
Each course has a certain fee. Each program has a different fee. Each faculty has a different fee. International students need to pay more.
Examination Structure :
I think it is horrible because within computer science there are about 2-3 exams for each course you take. Which this can be 4-6 courses. This adds up to be a lot of pressure which causes students mental health issues (long/short term).
Faculty :
I found that my set of faculty in computer science is very friendly, caring, easy to talk to, and very knowledgeable. You are not just a number to them.
