Both the FTII Cinematography answer sheet and question paper are the same; thereby, no question paper can be carried outside the examination hall. Every year the film institute makes a different committee for question paper preparation.

Generally, the questions are based on the following topics:

  • World of cinema, including history, art, culture.
  • Various Art movements, aesthetics.
  • Movie composition.
  • Colour science.
  • Basic physics.

Thus, you must watch movies of renowned directors like Satyajit Ray, Ritwaik Ghatak, Akira Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman and Martin Scorcese to make a sense regarding the concept of cinematography.

In the following one important recommendation is given, which will be essential for the preparation of cinematography:

  • The candidate should view and follow the works and style of top 10 cinematographers from the national and international films respectively.

The important thing is that the exam pattern of FTII does not allow entering in the examination hall with complete preparation, and the examination committee gives a start to the students to test their passions only. Thus, it can be stated that the student should need proper contextualisation to appear and to pass the FTII entrance test.
