Which is better: mechanical at PES university or CS at NMAMIT, Nitte?

PES University ranked at 26 in India 2020 by The Times Of India and 93 for its B.Tech course by NIRF in India 2020. NMAMIT on the other hand was ranked at 151 by NIRF in the Top Colleges in India 2020 and 170 by India Today in their India 2020 rankings for B.Tech course.

Presented below is a comparison of the necessary factors to help decide between these universities.

Admission Criteria:

PES University (Mechanical Engineering) -

• Students require a minimum of 45% with the science stream in their 10+2 examinations.

• Also, one of the following entrance exams needs to be undertaken – KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) or PESSAT (conducted by PES University).

NMAMIT (Computer Science And Engineering) -

Along with a 45% score in the results of 10+2 examinations students need to undergo the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka Undergraduate Entrance Test (COMEDK UGET) or KCET examination for admission in NMAMIT. The said criteria are 40% for the SC/ST category candidates.

Campus Placement:

PES University -

• A total of 56 companies visited PES University for recruitment in 2019, offering the highest package of INR 48 Lacs Per Annum and an average package of INR 39.2 Lacs Per Annum.

• Some of the top recruiters were Deloitte, Amazon, JP Morgan, LinkedIn, Flipkart, Tech Mahindra, Mercedes Benz, Cleartrip, Intel, IDS, Ikea, Infosys, etc.

NMAMIT -

• Over 80 reputed companies frequently visit the campus for recruitments, including Amazon, TVS, Toyota, Sony India, Indian Navy, Microsoft, etc.

• In the recent placements, the highest package offered was INR 18.5 Lacs Per Annum and an average package of INR 4 Lacs Per Annum.

Eventually, all the factors relevant in an individual case need to be analyzed before selecting in between these universities.

These two engineering branches are different from each other, so opportunities in these fields are also different in these universities. It totally depends on the preference of the candidate's choice to pursue.

Infrastructure

• PESU has state-of-the-art infrastructure for mechanical branches, providing facilities such as Subsonic wind tunnel, Grit blasting machines, Air jet erosion machine, rapid prototype machine along with Computer labs. 
• Whereas at NMAMIT, NITTE facilitates the coding infrastructure, more than 10 computers lab with internet facilities.

Faculty

• PES University: There are approximately 30 professors with many expertise fields of mechanical engineering with visiting faculty staff from reputed engineering colleges are invited to teach mechanical students at PESU.

• NMAMIT: They are working on various funded projects along with publishing research papers (peer-reviewed journal) whereas NMAMIT NITTE also has a good number of teaching staff with expertise in many areas of computer science engineering.

Admission

Here is information regarding entrance examination, course fee, and intakes of PESSU and NMAMIT.

• The candidates are selected on the basis of national entrance examination scores such as KCET or JEE Main and follow with their own conducted entrance examination. 

• 120 students for both branches at PESU and NMAMIT and the total cut-offs are 3327 (Mechanical) and 4134 (CSE).

• The course fee of PESU is around 2.02 LPA and NMAMIT NITTE is approximately 3.3 LPA

Placement

Placement records of PESU and NMAMIT NITTE are good for mechanical and CS. Almost 75% of students get placed during the placement cycle at these colleges. 

NMAMIT NITTE 

• The highest CTC offered by Amazon for CS students at NMAMIT is 30 LPA. 
• The major recruiters from the 2019 placement drive areAmazon, Wipro, Infosys, Unisys, NUTANIX, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini, HP, Dell, IBM, Accenture, etc.

PES University

• The highest CTC offered is about 25-35 lakhs per annum and the numbers of recruiters are Bosch, Mahindra L & T, Ashok Leyland, Adobe, Amazon, Samsung, Volvo, etc.

The mechanical branch at PESU is good as well as CS at NMAMIT is good for CS as it is placed at Bangalore so there are lots of IT hubs aligning. Many companies are conducting off campus drives, at this perspective, the job opportunities at NMAMIT have much higher chances but according to the learning perspective, mechanical engineering at PESU is not a bad option.
