IIT Roorkee Chemical Engineering is better than IIT BHU Civil Engineering. It is an old IIT and offers good exposure. The student culture on campus is great.

IIT Roorkee placements are good for Chemical Engineering. Each year almost 100% of students get placed from the branch. The average CTC for the branch is around INR 14.5 LPA. While the highest CTC goes up to INR 1.54 Crore per annum.

Integrated MSc ChemistryIndian Institute of Technology Roorkee (2023)

Chemical Engineering at IIT Roorkee is recommended over Civil Engineering at IIT BHU. Based on last year’s (2019) NIRF rankings, IIT Roorkee is ranked 6th, while IIT BHU is ranked 11th. IIT Roorkee also has better infrastructure and is one of the most reputed IITs across the country. On the contrary, the infrastructure at IIT BHU is not at par with other IITs. So, if you are not specifically interested in the branch, then IIT Roorkee is better.

2019 placement statistics showed that the average CTC offered at IIT Roorkee was around 14.72 lakh. Although IIT BHU is renowned for placements in M.E, CSE and IT, the department of civil engineering is lagging behind. The average CTC offered at IIT BHU in 2019 placements was 8.19 lakh. Besides, there is also a severe shortage of faculty in the civil engineering branch at IIT BHU (except for Structural Engineering).
